I know I have posted on Quaid a couple of times, but wanted to at least one more time. It is an evolving subject.
I am not sure if any of you are fans of Quaid, I am not sure if I am a great fan of his as an actor, but I think he is jam up for not letting this topic die and to keep fighting for the right to sue drug companies. If you would like to get more details about his personal experience and his drug company fight, check it out here, let me know what you think. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24616069/ ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Shawn, I watched this tragedy as it happened and was just heartbroken for them. They have been in our prayers over the course of time and I hope no one else will go through this.
As for the labeling and packaging of the blood thinner, Heparin, the two options (1 a 10 unit bottle and the other a 10,000 unit bottle, both blue in color) should NOT be ANY where near close to one another in color or style of bottle, so as to differentiate themselves and yes, when on a shelf bottles DO get turned and this CAN happen! I'd like to say that the first error and course of action would be with whomever administered the drug in the first place for not double/triple checking and cross-refencing the medication with the Doctor's order. Lastly, the drug company. I am not sure if suing the drug company is appropriate, as is more the idea of getting mandates for better and differentiating packaging of similar medications in place. I say that, however, if it happened to us, I would not hesitate to seek any avenue possible in ensuring it didn't happen to anyone else, and what I may need for care and education of my children if they were permanently impaired as a result. My heart and prayers go out to the Quaid family! Michelle "Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless in facing them. I am kind of on the fence on whether the drug company should be sued in this case, but Quaid is actually looking beyond his own case and is trying to instill rules to allow actions and lawsuits be taken against drug companies. There are many federal laws that protect these institutes or make it hard for individuals to bring drug companies to court.
Lol, before any of you, think, "Oh my, Shawn is being extreme like another involved poster". Please don't think I am against Drug companies and the FDA completely. I just feel if anyone is accountable in a case they should have at least the option of being penalized. Drug companies are BIG money and a big fight. For Quaid to go against them is admirable to me. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Shawn, I agree with you in that I am on the fence and DO see that Dennis Quaid is working to change the laws. That's what I was saying, too. As for the "extreme" poster, if it is who I think you are referring to, he is passionate and I doubt would cause harm or upset at any type of outside event. Information is his thing. I agree here, and a completely likable fellow he is in person from everything I've heard, and I have several good friends who know him personally. (Even if he and I rarely agree on topics.) Just call moi Rachel or Gjee. "When words leave off, music begins." --Heinrich Heine Link |
