I am revealing my most favorite author. I am wondering if any of you have read her books.
She is a wonderful lady and personable despite her fame. I once emailed her and asked for an autographed copy of a book to include in a dinner auction I was chairing for one of my son's schools, and she sent it! She also included a lovely hand written note. I would love to chat about her amazing writing. She has several books in a series, you have to read them in proper order, or you will be completely thrown off. I can give you the order if anyone asks. The first one is Outlander. Are there any other Diana Gabaldon fans out there? If you are not yet, and you read her, there is no way you wouldn’t be after. I included a link to her page. There is talk of making a movie of her book series, check it out. http://www.dianagabaldon.com/ ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Shawn,
Thanks so much! I have not heard of her before. I did however, just read a great book. The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield. Has anyone else read it? It's a great read! Abby |

I have never heard of her, but I will put that on my wish list on books to read. I love to discover new authors & once I do, I will read everything they have!
Right now I am reading Jodie Picoult's "Salem Falls." Is anyone familiar with her? So far of hers, I have read "The Pact," & "Nineteen Minutes." Both are really, really good! |

i love to read especially while my little one is napping. i have read a diana gabaldon book it was a breath of snow and ashes. i think it's later in the same series because i started out sooo confused, but it was a good book. and she is a good author.
i love books that take place in country/ ranch setting. and a author i absolutly love is janet dailey. she has a series about a ranching family. another author i really enjoyed was sue harrison. she has a collection out that takes place in bc times in alaska before it was alaska. that series was very good also. |

Courtney, you must have been so confused! That is the last book in the series. If any of you are interested the order is:
1. Outlander 2. Dragonfly in Amber 3. Voyager 4. Drums of Autumn 5. The Fiery Cross 6. Breath of Snow and Ashes It is a time travel book, yes; I know that might sound cheesy but I love it. I have tried to read other time travel books, it just isn’t my thing. The first Outlander book gives a lot of background in the beginning, but 50 pages in, you are hooked. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

TJsMum, very cool that you have British relatives, it gives more of a spin on your use of mum. I love it! If I had relatives that lived in Europe, I would be there every chance I could. I love Europe. I have been to England only once for a few days, I definitely want to go back to see more of England, and also visit Scotland and Ireland.
If you all start on these books now, you will be luckier than I. I have been reading these books for close to 15 years. I would read one and have to wait, sometimes years, before I could get the next book. I would have to wait for Diana Gabaldon to write the next one. It would make me crazy. If you start, the next one is just a library or bookstore trip away. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

I was born in the UK still Carry a British Pass Port and I have Alien Card But I love This country!
Both COuntries are very simular. I have since lost my accent , But My 5 yr old who was watched daily by my British Parents prior to going to School, has a wee british accent. This yr has been kind of hard for him in school because he Pronounces things as the British Pronounce. We told his teacher, and Much to my dismay we have now corrected his Proununciation of certain words. |

Amanda, you have to be kidding me? That is sad that someone thinks your son needs to be corrected. Are you serious? I bet his accent is soooo cute. I think it helps make you an individual as well. What school is this that thinks he needs to be "fixed"?
My sister is married to an Englishman. His accent comes and goes, but he doesn't sound like he is from the south that is for sure. His parents also live in Polk County. It is funny to hear him speak around his family, he falls back into a heavy British accent. It is like he is a whole new person with a whole new language. I think it is cool. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Shawn,
He actaully goes to Northridge Christian..I can understand trying to correct the way he says some of the vowels because the British say them different..but He gets marked off on his papers for it because he has not yet grasped that my parents speak different then everyone else he thinks everyone else is wrong...hahah |

Ooooooh, I am soooooo addicted to Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. I am one of the lucky ones who got to read them all back-to-back, which means my husband was one of the UNLUCKY ones who had to deal with an absentee wife and mother to our 2 preschoolers! And each book was around 700-800 pages!!!
Don't let the length of these books deter you, though. They're quick reads and sink you into another time and place. The cool thing is, the heroine, Claire, is a modern woman who gets trapped in the past (200 yrs. past). I'm not big on time travelling romance, but this reads more like an adventure series. You get to see history through the eyes of Claire, who represents life as we know it in the present time. Be prepared for a few lusty love scenes...this couple definitely knows how to enjoy that part of their marriage! Can't wait for the next one...I hear there are two already written and awaiting publication! |

oh GGK, I love having a mom that is as engrossed as I am on this series!
I completely understand what you mean by being an absentee mom and wife. When I told hubby there's another book coming out, he pouted instantly and exclaimed he was in no hurry for it to be released. OBTW it's by no coincidence my daughter’s middle name is Claire ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

You did NOT!!!! That's too funny! Claire really is a great womanly character. And spunky too!
I started this series around Jan. or Feb. this year and was finished with ALL of them in just a couple of months!!! I was so obsessed, I would order the next one from the library before I finished the current one. Once, I came home with 2 and finished them before the 2-week due date! Seriously! I find their views on marriage very interesting, his view harkening back to a time when a woman was a man's property, her view, of couse, as a product of the women's lib. movement, is wildly and vastly different. Makes for great friction in their marriage, especially early on in the first few books. I can just go on and on about these books, but I'll shut up now! :-D |

Makes me want to read the whole series again...but talk about friction in a marriage!!!!
I'm so obsessed, I should actually be packing right now for our trip to the beach this weekend, but I'm writing to a discussion board instead! Aaagh! |

No don't, I have no one to discuss this with. I'm so glad someone has a love for them like I do. I hope people will see these posts and fall in love like I/we did. Long story how I tripped over the first book years upon years ago. I owned the first book and then would check out the first few books in the series at a library. I was a struggling, basically broke college student at the time. Later in life and when done with school, I have been blessed with the ability to purchase all of her books. They are worth owning to me as I have read the series in it's entirety at least 7 times. Oh and yes I did, lol, name my one and only daughter influenced from these books. It just seemed to fit my baby girl. Her name is Lillian Claire. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |
