Text Messaging is all the rage these days. I see 7 and 8 years olds doing it, not to mention the teenagers!
Prices of texting can be outrageous. I really don’t do outgoing text messaging but for me to read a text message it costs me big bucks because I don’t have a texting plan. One family was having similar problems and asked T-Mobile to cut off their incoming text messaging capabilities and the company refused. The family is now suing T-Mobile. Pretty gutsy, huh? One family against a big cell phone company. So mommas, do you text message? Do you have kids that text? Do you think text messaging rates are reasonable? Outrageous? Do you think text messaging is convenient or a nuisance? Let me know what you think, article below T-MOBILE SUED OVER 'MANDATORY' TEXT FEES ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ Breaking Lillian of the bink. Just call me, "The Bad Guy" |

I generally don't text. However, I do have 2 or 3 friends who have texting plans that don't think anything of sending me messages here and there. They either don't realize or don't think about the fact that each of those INCOMING messages is $0.99 for me to pay.
I haven't said anything to them at this point because their messages aren't that frequent, but I can see where it could easily become a problem. I also have a complaint about it now that telemarketers can send you text messages. I've received a couple of those before adding my cell to the do-not-call list. Why should I have to pay for them to call and bother me in the first place! |

I don't understand texting, wouldn't it be faster to call someone? I just got back from getting my daughter a phone for her 14th b/day and we had to update our plan to unlimited texting which only cost about $25.00/mth more with the new phone and texting so not to bad. I still will not use it though, I have sent/received pictures not sure if that falls under texting or not.

I personally don't like texting when it comes to my kids, because I am one who listens to all thier phone conversations, and when they text it just takes more time to read everything, and they have the ability to delete before I get to it, yes I am nosey, and yes they know it.
My hubby and I were talking about this the other night, he went to help a friend put a roof on last weekend, his friends son was there texting the entire time, which was about 7 hours, finally at the end of the day my husband asked him how many text messages he had for the day? 86. 86, can you believe that? I really hope they have unlimited on his plan. |

I do texting with Anthony when he is at work. We text back and forth depending on what is going on. The guy he works with does the same thing with his wife. Its more convenient for them to text then to be talking on the phone. I only have 500 messages for my phone and I've never gone over 200 my messages are included in my plan. My husband has 1000 for $5.00. Its not too bad- he uses his a lot more cause he has a website and he has his administrators text him if they need something or if somethings wrong.

I prefer to text rather than call because it is faster. You can get right to the point and not have to get into the small talk for a quick question. It is also faster to read a question and send back a quick reply rather than see I missed a call, listen to the voice mail, call the person back, hope they answer the phone so I can give then the info or leave a voicemail... It's also great if you need to remember a takeout order or address, have the person text it to you.
My husband and I have it included in our plans. My oldest daughter is only 10 and she is the only 10 year old in America to not have a cell phone according to her. |

Shell! A momma after my own heart! I prefer to text also. I don't know why but I'd rather text than talk. My friends think it's so weird because they'll say something like, "I call you" and I'm just like, "text me instead!" My voice mail box is constantly full because I never check it! I state on my voice mail that I don't check my messages (but friends leave them anyway, lol) but I do read my texts. I have unlimited everything on my cell phone so I don't worry about the hundreds of texts each week, lol. My 9 year old also has a cell phone but she does not have unlimited texting so she doesn't text as much. (For all the moms contemplating getting their kids a cell... I got Alyssa one of the prepaid camera phones. It wasn't that much money and if when she looses it I won't mind because it's prepaid and the phone was less than $50 bucks.... just a thought to share with yall).
So any of you texting moms want to add me to your texting list just send me a PM I don't have a name anymore, I've simply become "Alyssa's mom" or "Alexis' mom" |

I’m surprised so many moms reported being texters.
I’ve never gotten into it, maybe because I know it would cost more but I never thought of the appeal of doing it really. Some of your reasons do sound legit. I can see the ability of getting straight to the point as a plus. My 18 year old cousin is a texting freak! Eddy said if they had an Olympic event that she would surly win the gold. I have never seen someone do it so fast! ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ Breaking Lillian of the bink. Just call me, "The Bad Guy" |
