I am in the hunting phase of purchasing new car seats for my two children. We go to the store to try out the "fit", then we come home and research the seat on the internet. In my search for info on car seats I found a website that brought me to tears and really made me think. Truthfully, it really made me want to keep my kids at home and never put them in a car again. Since that isn't possible, the search resumes for a safe car seat that fits. Here's the website: www.kyledavidmiller.org

What kind of car seat(s) do use for your child(ren)?

Do you put your child(ren) in a booster seat?

If you looked at the Kyle David Miller Foundation Website, did it change your opinion of car seat options for your child(ren)?

I am very interested in your opinions.

We have a Britax, bought at Target. As with my stroller, a Maclaren Volo, I will stick with 5-point harnessing as long as humanly possible. Since Hayley was not easy to come by (long story!), and she is petite, we will be staying in a car seat until she is absolutely too big for it. We also remained in a rear facing seat until about 18 months. It is virtually impossible beyond that because legs run out of room!

This is a great resource for information on car seats and user reviews of the options available. There are a lot of certified car seat techs on this site, too.

http://www.car-seat.org/

We have a Graco Nautilus for our daughter who is almost 4 and 40lbs. It is a highbacked booster seat with the 5 pt harness.

Our son is in a Graco Comfortsport. Definitely not my first choice for a car seat - but it was a gift and so we use it. I have no doubts about it's safety.

Safety of any car seat however is only as good as the installation and I've said it before and will say it again - please please parents, have your car seat checked by a certified car seat tech. You can arrange this by calling Polk County Sheriff's Office - they have qualified car seat techs on staff who are wonderful.

Mamaboo, that website definitely gave me the boohoos- oh man, it hurts a momma! That little boy's picture looks so alive.

Thank you for sharing the site with us. Hubby gets frustrated sometimes doing all the straps with Ryan and says, "Ryan doesn't need all this anymore." (I disagree!). I think if I show him this site, he will be glad to take that extra time. Thank you again!

i have an eddie bower car seat that i love. it grows with the child. i did use an infant car seat for brooke but with this eddie bower one it reclines so i would not have had to use a seperate infant one.
the other thing i really like about the eddie bower one is it gets taller as the child gets taller. it has the 5 point harness. and when your child outgrows that part then it has all the seat belt loops.
the only thing i don't like is it's heavy. and i move the car seat to my other car a lot. i guess i really need another car seat.

Courtney,
mom to Brooke and 1 on the way, that kicks all the time!!!

HELLO I AM NEW TO THE SITE,BUT I WAS VERY INTERESTED IN THE CAR SEAT STORY. I HAVE JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED THE GRACO NAUTAULIS, AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT I LOVE IT, MY 3YR OLD IS VERY TALL AND THE CAR SEAT GROWS WITH HIM, AND IT IS COMFORTABLE FOR HIM. HE LOVES IT. I DID ALOT OF INVESTIGATING ON CARSEATS BEFORE I PURCHASED IT, AND ALL OF THE REVIEWS WERE GOOD.

Thank you all for your input on the car seat issue. Albee that is a great website, I've used that one as well in my search for CS info. Shawn I hope you showed the KDM website to your husband, I know it will change his mind. I hope that everyone will read Kyle's story and learn from his mother's tragic experience. She is doing a wonderful job in educating parents on car seat safety beyond the 40lb limit that's on most seats. Brandi26 welcome to the site and thank you for your info on the Nautilus. We are going shopping today and the Nautilus is definitely on the short list. I love that it reclines and harnesses to 65lbs. I did try the Eddie Bauer and both of my children looked extremely comfortable, but it has a very short buckle strap that can pinch the chunky thighs and it only harnesses to 40lbs. Thank you again and please pass Kyle's story on to all of your mommy friends, it just might save another precious life.

Now that my son despises the carseat section of any store, we have three new seats. After many different stores and even more seats, we purchased an Evenflo Triumph Advance for Danika. We already had one Triumph that was my son's so we passed that to my daughter and purchased two Britax Regents for my son. Ouch, that hurt the budget, but safety is my number one concern. I did manage to find all three seats on sale, so that helped a lot. We wanted to buy the Nautilus as it seems like a very nice seat with great reviews, but the buckle dug into Tyler's legs and he complained that it hurt his "junk".
