In general I'm one of those people who tips atleast 20 percent as long as service is good (not great, just good - more for great!).
However, my husband and I were discussing tips for pizza delivery the other night when we ordered one. We don't live far at all from the pizza place (less than 5 miles) but it was raining so we didn't want to go out. The total was only like $14, so I gave the girl $5 tip. I figured it was more than 20% and although it doesn't get her much gas, she didn't burn much getting to our house either.
Husband thought it was more than enough, I still felt somewhat guilty that I should have given more!

I tip Pizza delivery on three factors: 1) how far away I am, 2) the weather and 3) how much I am ordering.

I live close to our pizza place of choice and I usually also tip $5 and our bills vary between 14-20 dollars. If we get wings and extras I add on for the extra "stuff" they have to carry.

I tip extra for rain!!!

From my understanding Pizza delivery people get paid so much for their gas or mileage. Plus get paid hourly and get tips. Don't feel bad for not tipping that much as most pizza places charge you extra for delivery-

When we are in restaurants we usually do 20% if the person is good- if they go way above and beyond what most do we give them more. If they are not so good then we give them 10%. - That usually only happens if we sit there with empty drink cups for half the meal or if we ask for sauces and never get them- and its usually when the restaurants aren't busy that we end up leaving the 10%- its like they are playing around cause no one is there.

I usually give at least 20% also. My friend used to work for a pizza delivery place and he said the do not get any more than a regular waitress which used to be like 2 something an hour. He said they also have to tell the manager what they got for a tip because it was divided up with the cook. He said the gas money they get is less than the standard mileage rate and the wear and tear on your car is not taken into consideration in that. He does just as a little parttime extra money. He said it is definitely worth the extra money when you get good tips and he said he remembers the good tippers!

I pay more in the rain, too. But, it looks like my husband and I need to recalculate what we give. I know this isn't pizza, but we dropped my aunt and uncle at the Orlando airport on Thursday and while I drove around in a circle a few times, my husband helped them with their luggage (they are in their 70s). My husband said my uncle checked the bags for $2.00 each and gave the guy a $5.00 bill and said to keep the extra. It was only $1.00 but the sign read "tipping optional." Well, my husband said the guy actually said this to my uncle "You know I'll only get $1.00, the rest goes to Jetblue?" and my uncle reached in his pocket and gave him more. I was upset and would have told the guy "Hey, tipping OPTIONAL! Take the $1.00 or nothing!" I'd chastize our children for being ungrateful, but now-a-days we'd think twice in situations like that, like our luggage would go missing or be sent on vacation someplace great where we weren't. Anyway, thanks for listening.

PS-- I almost got a ticket for "parking" too long while my husband walked from the curb to the car! I guess they expected him to jump on as I drove by. He is cute but I wouldn't care for him as a hood ornament. lol

I would chastise my children for being ungrateful also. Sometimes, I think people expect a lot, not saying I would not have gave more, but if I were the guy I would have kept my mouth shut especially since he does not know a person's financial situation, etc. Some people are just never grateful!

Pete-N Repeat, There you go again. You are so funny ! Big Grin I like reading your posts.
I agree with you other mama's. People can be so ungrateful and down-right(or rite?) rude!
greatfulcp, I do believe it is $1.00 per bag and as far as pizza, we are 2 miles at the most from Pappa Johns which is our favorite. They do have a delivery charge, so we tip them $2.00 - $4.00 depending on who quick it arrives. When we go out to eat, we tip 20% plus depending on the service. We will not tip high for lousy service.

Ann, I enjoy your posts, too! Smiler And thank you.

I think we've met aside from blueberry picking, btw. My husband and I were the ones who donated the larger rocking chair to the Y's nursery. You do work at the Cleveland Heights don't you?? Next time we're there we'll stop and say "hello"

I think we tip more like you, too. We like Papa Johns, Valdianos (I need to tell a mom hello and that we've met her husband who manages Valdianos before), Palace Pizza, Romeo's Pizza and Pasta (north Lakeland), and CDB's. I find myself tipping well while out, too. But, as you all have said, not for lousy service.

Courtney, I couldn't believe it when my husband told me what the guy had the nerve to say. And as Scrappin Mom mentioned, people's life circumstances make a difference in what they can give.

We also say when we can we do for others, when we can't we're doing for us. And we Have taught our boys that when they show anything other than being grateful, they can go without, that is unless it is a life necessity.

I work for the South YMCM, but not at their location. I am working at "Rochelle" Elem. in the after school program until the rest of the school year. I have worked the front desk at the North YMCA on Sleepy hill Rd. back last fall.
