Any one have any good tips on gifts and things to do for father’s day? I have an events link below that has free skating for dads on father's day.
Shhhh don’t tell Eddy, but I haven’t figured out what to buy him yet for father’s day. Are you ladies on the up and up or are you procrastinating like me? http://events.polkmoms.com/lakeland-fl/events/show/8318...-free-at-skate-world ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ Breaking Lillian of the bink. Shawn, I may not be the one to add anything of value here. Sadly, not having a father growing up, Father's Day has never been a big deal for me. Since having our own boys, I have made great efforts and they have been great for my husband and our boys. To make the day and the fact that my husband is a father special for them all.
Last year I was in the middle of helping our boys create special Daddy-n-Son Books, only to have the washing machine flood half our home and flooring issues ensue, thing is, those books never did get completed. Anyway, I initially was printing photos and gluing them to the paper that has blank at the top and lines at the bottom and our boys were writing sentences about each photo of themselves with their Daddy. The glue didn't work so well on the back of the photos. Since then however, I have realized that we have a good computer program that allows me to select my digital photographs and drag them onto album pages, etc. and the boys can add text directly there at each page. It prints out very nicely, no glue. At our recent homeschool FPEA Convention, we stumbled (Literally, if you had seen this conference room the size of a super walmart filled with vendors you'd understand how we stumbled!) into two vendors that create and bind children's books. I posted them on the homeschooling thread here, but they are called: Binding Books Beautifully is one. Here is their website. We had so much fun reading her children's self created stories and to see how wonderfully they were preserved! It was a mini-lesson. What a blessing it was for them to see the joy their children's stories brought other young children. Family heirlooms can be done this way, too! It is a definite to look at. http://www.bindingbooksbeautifully.com/ Another one is a book, The Ultimate Lap Book Handbook and we had a great time in her seminar, including our boys! They liked seeing what they'd be doing following some of their lessons. Smiler They have a great number of other items to look through, too. http://www.tobinslab.com/shopping/catalog.aspx?scCatalo...&scCatalogItemID=974 Anyway, I thought that children of ALL ages would enjoy putting together a Special "Daddy and Me" book for Father's Day. Even mommies of babies could do it, too. They could include hand and footprints of their little ones next to Daddy's, photos of Daddy in whatever way shows how special he is. And record Daddy's thoughts onto the pages or special things Daddy does. It'll end up being more for baby in the long run and may very well be a table favorite to snuggle to as you "read" the story of Daddy-N-Child. Books could be made as a Family Book, to include a Family Tree (Shawn I know you like genealogy). Sad thing is, with our computer issues, I probably won't get this done with our boys for my husband this year either! Better late than never, I suppose. Michelle, I am sorry that you were unable to have a relationship with your father as a child. I love my dad to pieces; I could not imagine missing out on that.
For my Dad I am buying him a trifle bowl and making some homemade banana pudding in it with tons of layers. I will include a card that tells him he is entitled to unlimited banana pudding all he has to do is bring back the bowl for a refill. After posting about banana pudding on PolkMoms, I asked my dad why he didn’t like it -why we never had it as children. He said, "Girl, it wasn’t because I didn’t like it, it was because your momma wouldn’t make it!" So I have to remedy the situation especially since my mom is not a huge banana fan and they live alone. I am still thinking on Eddy. He wants a new air compressor, but there is soooooooooooo many brands and power levels. I have no idea which one to get him! ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ Breaking Lillian of the bink. Just call me, "The Bad Guy" |

I just bought my husband a gift card to Game Stop and for my dad he is a HUGE Green Bay Packer fan and I bought him an autographed picture of Brett Farve that I purchased for $60.00 in beautiful frame with a GB emblem in it from the Collector's Dream shop in Lakeside village. The man in there is really nice and he has lots of memoriabilla?? including Nascar, baseball, College stuff, and pro. Hope that helps some people.

I too did not have a very good relationship with my dad when I was younger, but as Michelle said it is never to late. My relationship with my dad has seemed to get better in the last few years since my first husband's passing. It may have been out of my dad feeling sorry for me, but at least it was a step in the right direction for our relationship. Things have seemed a little estranged again since the birth of my first child which is very sad, but I believe someone else is allowing that to happen. Long story, different day for that info. Anyway, I hope things will get back to normal soon.

I'll hold you to it! As for Shawn, she and I seem to have similarities as well as town commonalities. I am absolutely amazed that I have been able to stay online as long as I have been! I am using a different browser, so maybe that's it?? taking the computer into the shop again tomorrow. Well, off to greet my husband from work at the door in something slinky, heels, and his favorite meal followed by an all nighter of pleasure focusing on him! Just kidding, he wishes! lol Michelle Michelle "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam" "Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless in facing them. Oooops, lack of filter again! Hope I didn't shock anyone too much. Should I delete that? I was offline and shutting it all down, when I thought I'd better get backonline and ask.

lol, Michelle, it is all good and funny, plus since this is the father's day link maybe you are giving ladies a thought on what they should do for their kids daddy--lol.
How do you discribe a trifle bowl? It is a tallish bowl with a pedastool. I use it for layer desserts. Like do a layer of cubed pound cake, a layer of whipped cream, then a layer of berries, and repeat. Triffle bowls are usually clear, so you can see the pretty layers. I love making trifle desserts. I do several different ones. I think banana pudding looks pretty in a triffle. I hope I am not the only one that does this? Oh I found a picture of a cute trifle bowl here http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=315&f=9564 Oh I hate to be bad, but if it agravates my mom, perhaps it could be a 2fer Lisa you are right, your life does sound facinating- you had me intrigued over lunch. We need to do that again soon, I hope to see you on Saturday! ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ Breaking Lillian of the bink. Just call me, "The Bad Guy" |

Shawn, "Oh I hate to be bad, but if it aggravates my mom, perhaps it could be a 2fer
Courtney, I told my husband last night as he settled in from work what I wrote and he was like "Well? Well? Well?" I told him Father's Day is Sunday and I need 'til then to rest up! lol The ice cream maker sounds fun! My husband loves it and our younger one and myself like the sherbert but our older son doesn't care for stuff like that - he's more of a crackers/chips/cookie fan. I won't have my computer for the next several days, still working on it! Off to a free movie, so gotta run! Michelle |
