I was 43 when I adopted my son. So, now I am 48 years-old with a 5 year-old.

That will make me 61 when he graduates from High School.

Very Scary thought.

He doesn't really make a connection right now, that I am older than most Moms, but as he gets older and is more involved with school, I worry about how he will feel to have a mom old enough to be his grandma.

I actually have people stop me in a store and say "what a cute grand baby you have there"

I know that feeling -- I am adoping an 11 year old now -- and I will be 48 shortly. My husband is 50. So far, age has not bothered our son at all. I love his quote -- 'you are not old, you are beautiful...' that just makes my heart melt.

Hopefully your son will always see you as a beautiful mom....

My husband who is 43 and we have had our first son a year ago. My best friend's husband is 50 with 4 year old triplets. I honestly don't think kids make a correlation to age as long as you always do things with them! I think the kids will keep us young and I don't think we will have to worry about the age factor. Well at least this is my hope anyway!

My husband is almost 70. I'm 59. This is our second time around! Honestly, I think that most of the time we are better at the whole thing now than in our younger days. I know that my husband is, as he has more time & patience now. He relates better and is less "afraid" with Hayden than he was with our older boys. I get tired, but I'm generally wiser now! I was definately better during the infant stages than I ever was with my older ones. I managed the nights & all the little baby times quite well with Hayden. I hated everything about the infant times with my older boys. Also, I KNOW that Hayden will survive any germ etc. I KNOW that I do not have to check everything out in books, with doctors etc. Common sense is the thing now. I used to terrorize the pediatrician when my first was small! And I was 30 the first time around!
Age really isn't a factor. Love is all that really matters.

Hello ladies, Well this conversation is interesting. I am 42 yrs. (43 in August) and the hubby just turned 36 in March. Our adopted daughter in now 18 mos. And...yes we want more "young-ins". I did not get married until I was almost 36! I enjoy being a mommy very much.
Nathans-mommy,
I can very much relate to what you said. I have the same thoughts! We are leaning towards adopting children a bit older next time. When my husband and I were praying about this subject, we ask God to bring the children to us that He wanted us to parent. Savannah's birth mom brought her all the way from New Hampshire and to our home and asked us if we were still interested in adopting her child. God had His plan, we just had to trust Him. Now, we are asking God to bring us the next situation!
ja2003wow,
I agree with you. Love is all that really matters.
Goodnight
