oh and another thought, Moms might want to upload photos of their babes or kids in hopes of an agent stumbling over the pics and possibly get an acting/modeling job. Think about how many people, adults and children, have gotten famous from posting video and pics on youtube. Before this post I had already planned a forum discussion on child agents and modeling. Just waiting for more moms to populate the site.

I guess I could say, Good Morning -
First, let me clarify, I am not a professional photographer. It would be lovely to make a living off a hobby! And while I wasn’t speaking from a standpoint of the law, but from a passion for the safety of children, Shawn's post prompted me to further research: USA Today: “Misinformation About Your Photography Rights Continues to Spread:” http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/andrewkantor/200...ography-rights_x.htm And “New Digital Camera? Know How and Where to Use It:” http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/andrewkantor/200...29-camera-laws_x.htm And the following PDF as noted in the article of this second link: Bert P. Krages, Portland, OR attorney and author of the “Legal Handbook for Photographers:” http://www.krages.com/ThePhotographersRight.pdf I was speaking from a place of respect for other parents and deep concern for the risk of exploitation of children. Which is very real and considering that our own community has had this very topic hit close to home of late, I thought it a relevant topic worthy of discussion. That said, taking pictures of our children is a joy! Sharing those photographs can bring great delight! It’s a natural desire of parents, especially mamas, to want to share their own families and happiness. My main issue is with uploading straight forward photographs, profiles aren't as much an issue with us. As fellow parents, mutual respect, care, consideration, and discretion should be taken into account. Taking photographs of others, children included, is one thing. Uploading them onto the internet along with possible physical location details such as place of activity, date, time, etc. is quite another. |

Shawn, I like the idea of a thread of information regarding area/local modeling agencies and agents, their policies and procedures, fees, typical contract information, etc. Someone's son we knew through a class was doing very well and enjoyed his agency. I think it was in Tampa. I'll see if I wrote it down someplace. I also know of someone local, but would have to look that information up to post another day, too. Speaking of populating the site, I ran a search for polk county, florida, moms, and forums to see if this one would pull up and it didn't. Is it accessible by an internet search? And will it be? |

Moms, as you can see, PolkMoms has been built in a way that photos and videos can be shared. This was meant to be a way for Moms to come online and have fun with sharing family photos. In future you will see more pics of my children in these formats.

Here is just one more example of what can happen. Uploading just makes it easier than what this guy did in cutting out the images from photographs:
http://www.theledger.com/article/20080418/BREAKING/453898235 And in case my link doesn't work, this is the Ledger Article: Published: Friday, April 18, 2008 Lakeland Sunday School Teacher Arrested on Child Porn Charges "BARTOW | Volunteer Sunday school teacher at Lakeland Acres Baptist Church was arrested today after deputies discovered he had pasted photographs of some of his female students’ faces onto naked photos of women’s bodies, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said. Danny Lynn Parker, 38, of Kathleen was charged with 90 counts of sexual performance by a child and one count of possession of child pornography, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The pictures Parker is accused of using are his own, the Sheriff’s Office said, from photographs he took at Lakeland Acres Baptist Church, where he volunteers as a teacher, and Lake Wales Care Center, where he volunteers as a youth camp photographer. The Sheriff’s Office said a Dade City resident set off the investigation when 90 photographs of children with their faces cut out were found in a trash bin at a Dade City egg farm. The citizen brought the trash that included the pictures to Dade City police, and officers found Parker’s name and address among the items, the Sheriff’s Office said. Police contacted the Sheriff’s Office and deputies responded to Parker’s home on O’Conner Road, where he lives with his parents. They asked to search Parker’s room and found a photo album with faces of the 90 girls, between the ages of 5 and 15, pasted on top of naked and sexually explicit photos of women’s bodies from pornographic magazines. Parker told the Sheriff’s Office he had purchased the magazines in Hillsborough and Pasco counties because they are not sold in Polk County, the Sheriff’s Office said, and admitted to cutting and pasting the photographs of children’s heads." |
