This is such a funny topic....my dear husband and I had a deal. He would name our boys, as long as they weren't family names. You see, his family names are Eugene, Gilmer, and Lewis. I would name our daughter. We have two daughters....Sarah Elizabeth is named after my mother and my great-grandmother. Our youngest daughter was a little tougher. I wanted to carry on the tradition of the names, but my grandmother was named Geneva and his mom was named Donnie. Yes, Donnie...so I looked to my other grandmother, her name was Mary. My mother's middle name is LaJane. So we liked the name Mary Jane....but really? Could you name your child Mary Jane? So we did some research and found that Molly does come from Mary...thus Molly Jane.

Ever since I was a child, I always wanted to name my daughter Alyssa Renee. That never changed. However, I married my husband who already had a niece named Alyssa. She had named her Alyssa before I even met my husband, but it really bothered me that I wouldn't be able to use that name. As it turns out, I had 2 boys anyway - so it didn't matter. Now, I just have a niece that I love, and love her name.

I loved reading all the ways everyone decided on names. Big Grin

My Sons full name is VanReddon Rudolph Lihtsey

we get his name from family
Van is his GG Grandpas name ,
Reddon is Great and reagular grandpa's middle name.
Rudolph is my husbands best friends fathers middle name. Woo that was a mouth full.
Of course I let my husband pick his name

because if we ever have a girl her name will be Sarah Jayne My grandmas full name. and my moms first name is Jayne, Now if we have another boy I have no Idea what to name him.
we are really big on keeping names in the family But not to the extent that our friend family does they have the name Joseph as the first name going back 8 generatins of boys and stephanie for 4 generations of girls.

My sisterin law named her son Mason Colt She is a horse trainer.
