With my daughter I made a little gift bag of baby items and "I love my daddy" bib. I had my 5 yr old nephew give it to my husband when he came in from work along with some pink and blue ballons. My immediate family was all there and my sister had the camera ready to take a picture of his reaction. He didn't quite get it at first. My sister had a 3 month old so he assumed the gift was hers. He just shrugged and handed the bag back to my nephew and said that wasn't for him. My nephew looked up at him with the biggest grin on his face and said 'oh yes it is. It's for YOUR baby Uncle V'.
With my son, it was a little different. He was a surprise baby. I stayed home sick from church one night when it hit me. Maybe I'm pregant? I went right out, bought a test and sure enough. Those 2 lines appeared almost instantly. I was shocked and couldn't wait to tell him. I quickly got dressed and went to church. He just happened to be standing in the foyer waiting for our daughter to use the restroom. I motioned for him to come to me, told him I figured out why I was sick and showed him the test. At church. LOL We hugged and laughed about it and since I was there I decided I would just stay. Somehow, I didn't feel so sick anymore now that I knew why. He went back in the church while I went to the restroom to get our daughter. When I walked out of the bathroom 2 other ladies were there and they said 'Congratualtions!!'. Apparently HE couldn't wait to tell either. He walked in church and told everyone we were expecting a baby. I was so embarrassed. I was walking to my seat and everyone stood up to give me a standing ovation. All I could think was "OMG now all these people know I've had sex'. Stupid, considering I was 31 and been married for many years but I couldn't help it. LOL I love reading these stories! |

Our third time around was when I decided to be creative. Our two year old Lillie has her favorite blanket and calls it nuggies. She has a yellow and a pink one but yellow is her favorite and the only one she will carry. When I found out we were expecting again ( a surprise less than three months after our stillborn daughter) I went out and bought a cream colored "nuggies". We brought it to my husband at work and my daughter handed it to him. He asked her did you get a new nuggies? I could tell he was confused why I would buy a new one when she only likes the yellow one. Then Lillie said "new baby nuggies" and I broke down in tears. Then he figured it out and we had a good laugh/hug/cry. It was really cool.

Katie, so sweet and creative on your popping the news to your husband.
With Ryan, I had no idea I was pregnant. We were in the middle of a custom house build making decision after decision. I just wasn't paying attention to my "monthly friend". I ended up with a bad sinus infection and went to my primary physician. When she went to write me a script for antibiotics and a steroid she asked if I could be pregnant. I told her, I had been trying but no luck, so no, but wait, maybe. She sent me to the lab for a blood test and I was! When I came to our now house being built, Eddy was installing a doorbell at our front door. I was so happy but felt so bad due to the sinus infection, so he new something was up when I was grinning like an idiot. I told him I was pregnant and he threw down his screwdriver and picked me up and swung me around-like something out of a movie. He can be really sweet and romantic sometimes. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Owwww Shawn that does sound like a romantic movie.
Have you ever watched "Coal Miners Daughter", with Sissy Spaceck? My sister and I love that movie. She is walking out of the doctors office and "Do-little", her husband asks her what the doctor said and she said in that country accent,"Doctor says I'ma have a baby." It was just so cute how she said it. My sister and I will talk like she did sometimes just for poops and giggles. So when my husband and I were going through the fertility treatments I thought how will we find out? Will I miss my period, will he be there too when the doctor tells me. So I wasn't even late yet and I had some terrible cramping one morning, for no reason. I was in soooo much pain I thought it was the injections I had in my belly or something. I went to my fertility doc and he did an ultrasound to see if one of my cyst burst. My husband was in the waiting room. The doc said "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were pregnant." He showed the sac in the uterus and the nurse behind him was teary eyed and shaking her head yes to me as I laid there in shock. We walked out to get in the car and my husband looked at me and said "Well, what did the Doctor say?" Now was my chance, for a split second I thought about that movie and then I finally opened my mouth and said "He said I'm pregnant!" I totally didn't get to say it like Sissy did but oh well, I couldn't think straight! haha We just stared at each other like, wow it finally happened! We couldn't wait to get home and tell people. Now with #2, no fertility, I was 1 week late, then 2 weeks, then 3 weeks. I walked outside to my husband and said "I'm really late." He said "for what?" I explained it to him and I went to walmart to get a preg test and all of them were positive! Wow I can't believe we did it the "old fashioned way" haha Mommy to Lacie and Dillon |

I've never seen Coal miner's daughter, but now you have me intrigued. I will have to find it somewhere and when I do see it, I will think of you and your impersonation

My first one was a little different.
It came as a surprise - I actually had been on the birth control pill. However, I was 3 days late - and my husband said I was pregnant. I assured him I was not - that I was on the pill, and could not be pregnant. He went to the store and bought me a pregnancy test. When he got home, I went into the bathroom and took it. He actually saw the results before I did - and he took off dancing, yelling & screaming. He was so excited. He ran out of the house, still dancing, and told everyone that he saw that I was pregnant. To this day, I've never seen him so excited about anything. I wish we had him on video - It was hilarious. |

I love all of your stories! Mine was slightly less than romantic... in January, after months of infertility treatments I had a positive pregnancy test, which I just blurted out to M and it ended up being a chemical pregnancy. Then comes February. We were able to take a slightly different route since I was now ovulating and I had an IUI (basically an artificial insemination). After the IUI you have to wait 2 weeks before testing for pregnancy. We'll I started at 10 days after and kept getting negative test. On day 14 I took another test that had the very faintest of pink lines, so I took another one - and it had the same results. I showed them to M and he told me that he saw nothing and I imagined it. So the next morning I took a digital test and when it said "PREGNANT" I was so disguted at the way M acted the day before I just left it on the bathroom counter for him to find. When he went in there to take a shower, he came back out going "What's up with this test?" and I was like... "well its what it said when I peed on it this morning"
Of course then we were terrified to believe it until we got bloodwork back that confirmed it, and the first ultrasound. |

I wish I had a romantic story to tell, but I don't. In my mind I thought of ways to tell him, but none of then happened I was to excited. I was getting sick every night for couple of weeks. I thought I was pregnant, but I took a test a week earlier and it came back negative. With my birthday in a few days I wanted to make sure that I could drink. My birthday is St. Patrick's Day everyone drinks. Thursday morning I got up and decided to take the test will it came back positive. Instead of waiting and doing something creative I ran back into the room jumped on the bed and shouted out "I can't drink my birthday". The words I am pregnant did not come out first just that I could not drink. Maybe for baby #2 I will do something special.

I was robbed with Ryan and Lilly to have that at home pregnancy test elation. With my miscarriage I did get a positive through a home pregnancy test and I can remember that excited anticipation of waiting to see what it will be, knowing your life could change in just a matter of moments. I savored that enjoyment of solo eagerness.
Shannon your Red Lobster story reminds me of me going to the doctor. I feel like I am a pretty healthy gal- I very rarely go to the doctor. Low and behold I had a urinary tract infection – no fun. When you go to the doctor they give you the form to fill out with- "when was your last menstrual cycle?" I left it blank because I just didn’t take the time to figure it in my mind. After a urinalysis test that confirmed my infection the doctor noticed I left my cycle info blank. She asked why? I told her I didn’t recall the day, and she said,”Try”. I thought, “Why is she so worried about this? I then recalled a when and where from the month before so I remembered the dates and told her. She did the math in 2 seconds and said, “Do you realize you are 4 days late”. I felt like a total idiot for not even thinking it was an issue. She sent me back to the lab for a blood test- yepper, it was positive. It just happened to be that Eddy was in the garage (I don’t remember what he was doing) when I pulled my car in. He looked at me as I put the car in park and I grinned. I opened the car door and he said, “Your pregnant aren’t you?” My mouth must have hit the floor. He then told me that was the last time I am going to the doctor, because every time I go, the doctor talks me into being pregnant, lol. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

My husband and I have been trying since August for a little one but to no avail. So in April, I woke up one morning and felt funny. I was about due for my 'monthly friend' but decided to wait on anything. A few days later, curiousity got the best of me so I went to CVS down the road and picked up a cheap ol' EPT. I went home and took the test. My husband was next door at a friend's house with about 4 of his friends.
I approached him and said when do you want to be a dad? He just looked at me and said, you know we're trying, stop playing. So I looked at him with the biggest grin that I couldn't hold back and said how about December? So I took out the EPT thing and showed him. I got the BIGGEST hug from him, tears streaming and dancing and hollering. He was so happy. But he went back to CVS to buy the most expensive EPT possible just to make sure that the cheap one wasn't playing with him. It wasn't. We find out July 24th if itll be a boy or a girl. |
