Just wanted to share my story, and make people aware.
I have three children right now however I had wanted to stop after 2. So after my 2nd child was born I got and IUD. I, along with my doctor thought that was a good option for me because I had a very hard time on birth control, So I opted for an IUD. I checked it like you are supposed to, I went to the Doctor after it was put in to make sure everything was okay, but before I knew it I was Pregent. Within a year I was PREGNANT!! I couldn't believe it. It was so hard for me to believe that I was almost 4 months pregnant before I went to the doctor and found out. They had to remove it while I was just over 4 months. I got lucky and had no other complications from there, but it was a very scary thing..
My point is please consider this if you have or are thinking of getting an IUD. I am only 1 of 3 people I know who have gotten pregnant on one and concidering IUDs are 99.2-99.9% effective as birth control, that concerns me.

Your concern is valid in my opinion. I just can not buy the stats of the success rates of IUDs. Over the past few years I have had 4 or 5 people tell me they got pregnant with an IUD. One of them I know miscarried when they went to take the IUD out when the mother was just over 6 months pregnant.

I don't think this would be my first choice of birth control for sure.

Thank you ateiat33 for your testimony for other moms to consider.

Are there any moms out there that have had good results from IUD?

I would also like to know which IUD it was. This scares me because I have one and I REALLY cannot have another child any time soon.

I have one too and I have to admit that I LOVE it and wouldn't not have one.
I had to get one because of the hormone and migraine issue.......but I have had mine for a couple of years.
I think anyone can get pregnant on any birth control medication or device. I have heard of several that got pregnant on depo, pills, norplant, etc.

But out of curiosity, what brand is it? You can PM me also if you don't want to say.
Mirena is a popular brand now.

like mommy-of-2 said u can get PG on any form of birth control. i am that .1% for all birth control.
my first was a pill baby
2nd a patch baby
3rd a depo shot baby
4 was planned
5th was a condom baby (didnt break) dr told me to use condoms and spermicide till i figured out what birth control to use well my baby is 7 months old and im 20 weeks PG.
i didnt want to try mirena because all the ladies ive talked to have told me thier horror stories about how it went into thier utrus and had to have surgery to remove it, my aunt lost hers she didnt know it fell out and they did ultrasounds to find it even tried to find it manually till they did a x-ray to find out it was gone.

I did not have any weight gain, but I did have irregular cycles which is one reason I didn't go to the doctor sooner.

I don't think I can blame my weight gain on Mirena. I just like to eat!!! I love Mirena-I love not having a cycle and I am a very regular persona. When I took the pill, my cycle was so screwed up and I did have weight gain. The thing with Mirena is there is no hormones at all with Mirena, so occassionally I think my hormones get out of whack, and due to not having a cycle. I have been taking the vitamin SAM-E and it has really helped stabalize the hormones.

I have had my mirena for almost a year with absolutley no problems. If anything, I have lost weight. To be honest, my cycle has become almost nonexistant since I had the mirena inserted so I could see why it would take a while with mirena to figure out you were pregnant. The doctor warned me before I had it inserted that my cycle would probably change somewhat, but said that most women felt the change was for the better. That has definitely been my experience.
I do get nervous sometimes that it is not as effective as the literature says. I don't know anyone personally who has gotten pregnant with mirena, but I hear stories through the grapevine. However, I have read and heard on a number of occasions that IUDs are the number one choice in birth control for female OB/Gyns. I would have to assume that OB/gyns would have quite a bit of first hand knowledge about what works and doesn't work to prevent pregnancies. So for now, I am trusting in Mirena!

I also had Mirena but chose to have it removed after 7 months. I had constant bleeding that just would not stop. However, I got it on the recommendation of both nurses in my Gynos office. They both loved it and swore by it. Unfortunately, it did NOT work for me. Also, I personally know one person who did get pregnant while on it. My kids are 12 and 15 and getting the IUD was kind of a last resort thing as I was about 99% sure I wanted to get a tubal. I've decided to go ahead with that but am still not 100% confident as a friend just recently got pregnant with her FIFTH child when she had hers tied after baby #4!!

Whew!!! I'm so glad that my husband decided to get a vasectomy. After my son was born at 10 pounds 13 ounces and 24 inches long I decided that 4 was enough!

However, I have two good friends that have the Mirena IUD and have non-existent periods. For that reason I envy them. Good Luck ladies with whatever form of birth control you use!!

YOU GOT PREGNANT ON MIRENA??? YIKES!!!!! One more reason for me to have that thing taken out! I knew it was possible, but I thought it could only happen if the mirena came out of place!

I have had mirena for about 6 months, and have had some issues with it. I will have really painful random cramps. I have had weird pains in my legs. Like nothing I ever experienced before. I have also experienced some weight gain. I had mirena inserted after I had my daughter, and was able to lose weight, as long as I was breastfeeding. As soon as I stoppped breastfeeding, I stopped losing, slowly started gaining. And I've been still trying to lose that baby weight. I gained 75 pounds. Yeah, I know. I had 20 to go before I stopped breastfeeding, and now I'm up to almost 30 pounds to go until I'm at my pre-preg weight. So i've gained about 10 lbs in 3 months. Wow. That's a lot.

As soon as I get a job (just moved here), and health insurance, I am going to have it removed. It's just not worth it in my opinion. We are going to try the counting method. From what I've read, it's just as effective as hormonal birth control.

I do have to admit, that I will miss what it has done to my cycle. I have only had one period in the last 3 months, which is nice! BUT, I had 3 months of constant bleeding before that.

Good luck to you with your pregnancy!
