We were told NOT to photocopy our sonogram pictures. How should they be preserved? Our older son's are in little frames and so are a couple of our younger son. But, I do have some of our younger son on the computer, too. I can't think what we did with his. I think my husband did scan ours or maybe we took a picture of the sonogram picture itself? By the time we had our younger son, we had a digital camera, so we may have taken a picture of it that is now on our computer. Hhhhmmmm?? I'll have to check with him now that I'm really thinking about it.

Anyone been told what to do with theirs?

My husband also scans them into the computer right away and saves them because the sono will start to fade.
I have never gotten any advice on how to preserve the original ones.
I'll ask the tech next time I go.

Melissa,
Doesn't what happens with scanning the same as how photocopying works? I thought maybe we'd scanned ours, but when I asked my husband he said we indeed took pictures of the sonogram images and then uploaded those to the computer. That's why we only have a couple from one son rather than all the sonogram pictures we had taken.

Yes, they do fade. Frowner So, if you are saying you scanned them, then we may try that, too. I want to preserve them all.

Thanks!

Shannon,

Good idea, the heat of the laminating machine was fine with them? No fading? Sounds like that is the route to take!

We actually took pictures our Felicitys' and Alaynas- And we had the diskette. With the Bryson I got the DVD and CD and just put them on the computer. With Gavin- I got about 100 sono pictures working in the OBGYN had some benefits. Plus I got the cd with several pictures on it.
The pictures we took turned out fine and it didn't fade them in anyway.

Thanks for the input! We are in need of a laminating machine anyway, Shannon, so I am glad to hear someone else did this and it worked out fine.

Melissa (tripsi), we did get video of our sonograms - with our younger son, it was a more extensive one with a high risk specialist because we were facing the real possibility of having Spina Bifida with him due to our older son having a minor, more common form. We were faced with considering surgery while still pregnant and everything. We THANK GOD everyday for the blessings He's allowed us with our boys, even with all the outside stresses we were presented.

We want to get our VHS onto DVDs, anyone do that yet? How easy is it? I am also glad to hear we weren't the only ones to take pictures of our sonogram pictures! lol

Melissa B.doesn't the same thing happen when you scan as when you photocopy? And yours were alright?

places sell dvd vcr's that will copy from vcr tape to dvd. we have one but unfortunalty the vcr part has never worked for us. i would recommend a more expensive one. they will probably be easier to use. mine will copy from tv to dvd and it's a pain in the butt. but i know they make easier ones to use.

My grandfather has a machine that does that- But you have to watch with some of the DVD's because some burned ones will not play on certain DVD players.

Shannon, Courtney, and Melissa,

I've recently heard of how you can burn photographs to DVDs, too. Like you, Shannon, I am chicken and want someone else who's done it to tell me how! lol

I'll definitely need to look into this machine because it'll free up so much space just getting all the boys VHS to DVDs! Not to mention all the VHS we have before and since the boys until we got a camera that recorded straight to DVD, not that long ago.

It's got to be so time consuming, too, just thinking about it tires me out!

that is true with the burned dvd's not playing on all dvd players. when we look for a dvd player we look for one that playes all the writable disks. they are usually around the same price.

Michelle,
We put the original sono in the scanner, scan it to the computer and print it out on photo paper. Save all pictures into one file and I can print as many as I want or copy the file onto another cd.
My originals from 3 years are already faded some. But thats ok I have it in the computer.

My husband is a HS Teacher and a Head Football coach this year. For the last 6-7 years he has a second job on the side. He makes highlight tapes for football teams in the area or out of state. They send all taped games to him, he downloads then onto the computer, converts them onto a dvd and then adds all kinds of graphics and music to them.
Yes some DVD players have on them "-R" or "+R" or both. That just means you can't watch a copied movie if your dvd player is "+R" and the movie was copied onto a "-R" disk. Alot of them now say "+ or -".
I go to the OBGYN Thursday, I'll ask if there are other ways to preserve the originals if you don't download them like I do. Smiler

I've scanned all of mine and haven't had any problems yet... of course none of them are that old.

I like the idea of laminating them. I may have to look into that. I have already have 5 u/s (at 20 weeks) and with two babies I already have a huge stack pictures.
