I got so tired of hearing that word during delivery!
Anyway, how may of you Mommies received "Push Presents" when you had your baby/babies?

I never heard of it until I was pregnant with Lacie in 2005. I think it was an article in the Ledger. My husband and I joked about it but he did buy me a heart locket with the mother/child figure on it and even gave it to me in the hospital. I expected flowers but never expected that! Wow wonder what I'll get for this baby. teehee.

you know i didn't realize this would be the best present until about a year later, but, after the birth of my son, 3, my daughter was 10 years old at the time. she came in to vist me and her baby brother. my sister had taken a piture of me in the hospital bed holding him and my daughter sitting beside me looking at him. they had this blown up, and it was really a great picture. now it became the best present i could have ever gotten.

By "push present" do you mean getting presents at the birth of babies? If so, well, we just felt blessed enough to have ours in our arms considering.

After our younger son and we knew we were done, I did pick out a nice (and expensive Roll Eyes add sigh here, too) purse from the International Plaza. Within a matter of a couple of months, I realized it wasn't the best designed purse to zip and unzip as many times as I need to in any given day with its crescent shape.

Soon, the zipper began tearing and for the money we paid for it and the matching (of course!) wallet, we went back. We were informed we had just past the year guarantee (weren't ever told there was one) and it would take about 8 weeks for the process of sewing a new zipper in and we would be charged about $50.00 for a $3.00 zipper (put exactly like that!).

So, I left it and then hassles ensued. Several weeks later were told it wasn't even at the shop it needed to be at and would probably take even longer than the initial expected 8 weeks.

I told them to get it back and since we were to pay upon completion, weren't out any additional costs.

SOOOOOO......nearly 5 years later, I STILL have a purse with half a zipper, but we've only seen 2 other people in our travels with one like it, so are we special or stupid for it considering the zipper issue?

Just as our deliveries had complications, so too does my "push present." All the better to remember the gifts our boys are!

Oh, a relative got herself a very nice elliptical machine after their third, all natural at home in birthing tubs.

Grrrr...
Didna know I was supposed to get presents too, lol.

I thought the bowling balls I managed to squeeze out were all there was to it. Big Grin

But on the serious side, I was just happy with my first and last once I was allowed/able to breastfeed and not have to use the darn pump. It was horrible having to wait for that, but between the three, each one wound up either staying in the hospital extra time due to a serious concern or going back like my middle one did for simple jaundice.

I guess you could say the breast pump was the gift that came with all my bowling balls. Smiler

Courtney, you are right, next time I see your hubby I will give him the heads up Smiler

Melissa, I have seen this topic discussed on other mom forums, it is a good topic for sure, and if I meet your hubby I can give him the heads up too.

I think it is sweet when ladies are presented with a token of appreciation after giving birth.

Not that my hubby didn't appreciate my "work” I just don't think it occurred to him. Poor guy, He was busy worrying about being able to make it to the birth of Lillian. I really thought I was going to give birth by myself. We couldn't find anyone to watch our other kids for us!

I had never heard of a "push present" until my sister-in-law had my nephew last year and my brother gave her a diamond ring (nothing extravagant, just a small simple ring).

I think the idea is sweet, but I have to admit that I'm so conservative with money (or cheap as my husband calls me) that he would probably get in more trouble for buying me something than not!!

I forgot to mention that I bought my husband a new Daddy t-shirt at the birth of each of our boys that he could wear.

Also, with our younger son, I bought a large blanket with a beautiful saying on it about Daddies and their little men. I had it monogramed with their names. The night I went into the hospital to have our younger son, I made sure my husband was done in our bedroom and I laid the blanket out on the bed so he'd see it when he arrived back home afterward.

Thing is, I ended up laboring all through the night for hours alone (which was difficult, but had no one who could be with our older son) because by the time 9pm of the evening we went in had arrived, it looked like I was slow going.

My husband went back home with our older son and stayed with him (slept with him in his bed -poor baby was the first time away from MommyFrowner) until I phoned him in the am to come on back up - thinking once our doctor had broken my water we'd go faster - thank God we didn't, story posted in the CORD thread.

He didn't even see the blanket until the next day! We have had the blanket hung on the wall by a tapestry pole and is now on the back of our couch and is used often! He felt very special getting his new Daddy t-shirt and blanket. Oh, I also bought him a Daddy ball cap.

I felt I was getting enough to have our boys and didn't even consider the purse until my husband brought it up a couple/few months after delivering our younger son.

I think it is a lovely idea for mommies to get something special to commemorate the event(s) that she can wear, use, or look upon especially as children grow and do more on their own.

Friends of ours bought a Mother's Necklace with the birthstones of her children.

Oh, I did get a Mother's Ring just before our younger son was born with all 4 of our birthstones in it. I picked it up two days before he was born (which was actually the day before his due date, he was a day late).

Just some ideas for mommies to consider as well as things for Daddies, too.

I did not get a material push gift from my husband, but I did get something else. I was able to quit me job and be a stay at home mom. For me that was a better gift then anything else.

I really do appreciate the way you think vegaralat. I withdraw the grrr.... Smiler

I think it's wonderful some ladies received or receive a little extra this or that, that's really sweet, not knocking it, just being silly, lol, but yes, to be able to stay home with the baby or kids is a real blessing and a gift where possible, not just to the moms able to, but to the chidren and to the husband, as well.
