I thought some of you may get a kick out of this article. Brought up a lot of points for such a short article.
Says morning sickness could be good for you? Says animals do not get morning sickness, I wonder if the pregnant animal they interviewed told them this? -hmmmm How would they know if an animal feels quessy while prego? Mentions morning sickness is brought on by tastes and smells. Were any of you like that? I woke up sick ,minus smell or taste. It didn't take smells or taste to get me yucky! The article is below. If you have been there, share your experiences and what worked for you. Clue in ladies that maybe going through this now. Or you could let us know if you are going through this now, and we can all feel really bad for you. You would have my sincere sympathy Article below http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24709676/ ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

I can't speak for anyone else (human or otherwise), but I was like Shawn with my first pregnancy - I woke up sick! And then I stayed sick for the morning and afternoon before I went to bed sick! Forget morning sickness, I had all day sickness!
There were certain smells that would make it worse (like chicken), but it didn't take anything to set it off in the first place. Luckily this time around I haven't had any sickness other than occasional nausea when I get too tired. |

Well, I have heard that before that morning sickness = healthy babies. I actually read something similar a few months back in The Ledger. I was very ill with both my pregnancies, and for the most part my babies were healthy.
I didn't have morning sickness either, it was ALL DAY, everyday. With both my sickness didn't start til I was about 10 wks along. First time around, I tried different things, including medication. After being hospitalized 5 times for dehydration, my Dr finally put me on Zofran (I think it is what they give chemo patients for nausea). As long as I stayed on the Zofran, I was fine. However, the Dr didn't plan on me taking it my entire pregnancy, but I had to. Any time I quit taking it (even I just tried it gradually), after 2 days of no meds I would be very ill again. I still don't quite understand how my baby could stay healthy & grow when I couldn't keep anything down. She was healthy, but I wasn't. Also, as long as I stayed on the meds, I could eat pretty much whatever I wanted. So, towards the end, I made up for months of missing out foods. The second time around started about the same, except as soon as my illness became all day, my Dr immediately put me on the Zofran. This time around, I had to be very careful about what I ate. Plus, I was kind of scared to eat anything. I didn't eat out a lot, didn't eat anything fried or greasy, and ate mostly bland things (lots of plain baked potatoes). Even on the Zofran, I still had sickness in the morning and it lasted my whole pregnancy. At least the first time around, as long as I stayed on the meds I felt great. The second time around, I stayed on the meds, but still had morning sickness all through. I was better in the afternoons & evenings, though. It was like the earlier I got up, the sicker I was. I still don't understand how my babies were healthy when I didn't feel like I was. I guess they just took too much from me! There were certain smells (like seafood) that would trigger it, but for the most part it didn't really matter what I ate or smelled, it was still returned. Mommy to 2 beautiful girls! |

I should add that I never had that pregnancy "glow". I always looked "green" from being ill!

I was sick morning, noon, and night with both of my boys. My "morning sickness" started at about 6 weeks and last until about 25 weeks with both of them! I had a good 2 months of actually enjoying my pregnancies, but I will do it again someday.

I had very low grade nausea with our first for a couple weeks and then being off from teaching for the summer, I could sleep as much as I wanted (remember this was our first, so I was offorded that luxury of "anytime I wanted" naps lol). I threw up once, Chef Boy Rdee (sp?) speghetti (have never had it since) and it was over. GREAT pregnancy!
With our second, was sick, sick throwing up a lot and anytime of day, not just morning until our second trimester when it stopped gradually within a week or so, until one day I hadn't been nauseous nor thrown up and I realized it was over. I loved it both times, evn through throwing up! It was my experience and our babies growing, so I looked at it like whatever was happening was the way it was supposed to be. Both pregnancies were vastly different including their labors and deliveries. I'm still getting up the courage to share those stories. I know other mothers who vomitted while pushing their babies out and others still who had not one queazzy (sp??) moment the entire time. It's just amazing process altogether! After reading all of your posts, I am wondering, "Why is it called morning sickness?"
I was sick morning- noon - to night. Could not sleep well because of it. 24/7 with Ethan until almost 7 months. I thought I would be good and go it caffeine free with Ethan and decided to drink sprite. I vomited it so much, to this day, 12 + years later, to look at a can makes me as green as it is. I haven’t touched it since! With Ryan, I was sick but it only lasted a couple of months. With Lilly I only did the deed once, but was nauseous for a couple of months. All three times was all day and not brought on by any smells or tastes. I "puked" during all three of my labors too. Tricia, I was like you, no glow while pregnant for me. I actually have a funny story about this. While pregnant with Lillian (I gained 80 pounds) I saw this guy in Crispers that had a crush on me in high school. He hadn’t seen me in years. He said hi, but you could tell he was like, "That's Shawn? Yuck!" lol. I couldn’t blame him. I was bloated, skin breakouts, green coloring, fat, lol, etc. I saw him about a year later and he actually came up to me and said, "Wow, you are gorgeous again!" Lol -I almost died laughing. I guess he couldn’t believe the difference and how bad I had looked. I guess anything would look better than me prego with Lillian. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Why do they call it "morning" sickness? Some man must have came up with it.
Before I finally got pregnant, my sister had her boys before me. I saw what she went through, oh god I was so scared to go off my pill back then. She had it bad. Whats that called "hyeremis gravadium" (sp). Anyway I didn't know It was going to take me so long to get pregnant. My sisters experience wasn't so fresh in my memory anymore. I know as soon as my fertility Dr. told me I was knocked up with Lacie I turned green. It's like a mind thing! He rx'd "phenergan". Now with this pregnancy I told my OB on my first vist, give me something that helps nausea and doesn't make me sleepy. He gave me Zofran. I think with both it was over with by 12-14 weeks. Thank god! Something wierd...my mother would puke at the scent of Palmolive dish detergent when she was preg with us. Wierd how some things can set it off. Or maybe that was her way of getting my dad to wash them. Hmm I couldn't stand to get in the kitchen and cook, raw meat and cooking smells got to me. I'm the type, if I throw up from some kind of food, it will take me five years to eat it again. I hope I don't ever get sick off chocolate! Mommy to Lacie and Dillon |

My first pregnancy was Easy. It was Great!
I never got sick, I never even felt queasy. I never really knew what people were talking about until my second pregnancy. It was not Morning Sickness, It was All Day Sickness. It started right at the beginning of the pregnancy, and lasted until about 5 months along. That was pretty bad. But, Both of My Boys turned out healthy. |

Mentions morning sickness is brought on by tastes and smells. Were any of you like that?
I loved that part, was cracking up (although I've heard that mentioned before, couldn't say for sure, but one thing I am sure of, lol, morning sickness can be a direct result of getting pregnant. And pennington ~ I had that distinctive green glow too, lol. My first pregnancy, I was sick for 8 months plus, morning, noon, night. Awful. Second pregnancy, I had the normal (or expected, one might say) 3 months of nausea any time or all day. My third, I reverted, I was sick for 8 months again. Funny or not so funny thing about it, my middle pregnancy was easiest all the way around with that, I ate better than I was ever able to with my other two, it was just easier. And my middle daughter is the one with autism. So, truthfully, if it would've helped, I'd have taken being sick the full 8 plus months with her too. But, then none of it was my choice really, nothing helped when I was sick either. I just threw up all the time. I figured out I've spent a year and 7 months heaving just for my kids to get here. (I sure hope one day they appreciate it, lol.) |
