If any ladies has any experience giving birth here, let us know about it. Would you recomend it? What doctors did you use to give birth there?

I'll be having my C-section here on June 30th so I'd be interested in learning more too. Especially about what I might encounter when I tell them I want to sign a waiver for the Hep B vaccination.

Wanted to update here

I had my new baby on June 30th at HOF via planned C section.
The nurses and OB were wonderful and very accomadating to my wishes!

I know I have heard horror stories about staff giving a parent the riot act if they want to do something "out of the norm"! So I was kind of prepared for a fight.

I went in with my birth plan [well as much of a plan as you can have with a C section! LOL]

Basically I had on there no formula, bottles, artifical nipples or glucose water...no eye ointment...no Heb B vaccine and no circumcision.

They said no problem, had me sign some forms and that that it!
The nurses were so calming to me and very caring. I was quite nervous because with my first son [born at the Regency] I actually went through labor and almost 3 hours of pushing before my C section so I didn't have time to think about it.

Well with this one I was a nervous wreck by the time the date rolled around [mostly nervous about getting the Spinal Block while not in pain! I was worried I would move and it would hurt like heck]...well even the anesthesiologist was great and really calmed me down and walked me through everything!

I had a great recovery and they were very attentive to me! The only thing I didn't care for is that the Lactation Consultant wasn't there a lot [as she was also in school]...and she was in and out of the room so fast my head was spinning. If I had been a first time mom I would have been lost for sure!

Overall it was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend HOF!

Both of my children were born at HOFRMC, and I must say it was great both times. Both times I had a private room and most of the nurses were great. In fact, when I had my daughter, they allowed my son(2yrs) to stay the last night with me and my husband (It wasn't easy trying to convince them to agree to this, but they eventually gave in). I had midwives deliver both of my children, Nora delivered my son and Nancy delivered my daughter. The biggest complaint I have is with the billing department (and they quit serving the steak and shrimp dinner to new parents). Overall, I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone and if I choose to have more children I will definitely be delivering at HOFRMC. And one last thing the lactation consultant that was on duty when I had my daughter was wonderful, she would spend at least 30 minutes at a time with me.

Great ladies! I have been waiting for some reviews of this place. Thank you for letting us know how your experience was there! I want moms to know there is this option in Polk County.

Terra, first and foremost congrats on the baby! Second, reading your post was like reading a play right out of my own game book!! My first was born at the Regency. They induced my labor and let me push for three hours just to tell me she wasn't able to fit through my pelvis and had to have a C-section. I was NOT happy with the care I received at the Regency (in all fairness though this was back in 1999 and I have heard they've made some serious changes). Anyway, I had Alexis (by planned C-section) at HOF and loved it. Only negative for me was them not having a nursery. I literally did not sleep more than 30 minutes the first 48 hours after surgery. I was border line mental melt down from being so tired and my nurse (who baby sat my oldest when she was a baby) came in and insisted on taking Lexi with her to the nurses station for a few hours so I could get some sleep.
It was a much better experience at HOF!
As for the doctors I had Alkass (jerk!), Salamanca and.... drawing a blank.... thankfully it was Salamanca and the one who's name I can't remember that did my C-section. Dr. Salamanca was great. I can't say enough great things about him. Alkass was rude and I refused to schedule my c-section when he was on.

I'm so sorry that Alkass was like that too you!! He actually did do my C section and of course saw me several times through out my pregnancy and was so nice, reassuring and even joked with me all the time!

I'm glad that you got Salamanca though! He is AWESOME!! I LOVED the midwives too and was really hoping for a VBAC with one of them...but well....no such luck under Florida Law right now! Too bad that don't have a nursery for those that do like to have a break! I love to room in personally and not let my baby leave, but it would be nice if it were an option for a mama who would like to have a few hours of ZZZZ's!! LOL...
