Savannah is running a fever again.......those of you who know, she has had three febrile seizures since she was 9 months old...... I pray this doesn't happen to her again...

Is it just me or dos this spark fear in those with little ones that have these seizures even when they START running a fever??

I know they say this is fairly common and that it doesn't hurt them but I still get so scared...

Krystal, I bet you knew I would be all over this one. Lilly has had fever 2 times since her seizure. One for a virus and one for a throat/tonsil infection. I was all over her with Motrin around the clock both times. She was so sick of seeing me with our ear thermometer. She would run. It stressed me out both times until the fever broke. Neither time she had a seizure but I wouldnt let her temp. go up more than 100 degrees.

I know what you are going through. I am so sorry.

How is she doing, is it something viral?

Well right after I wrote this she had a seizure about 11pm last night........we called 911 and they came and checked her out and gave us the option of us taking her to lakeland pedi-er or they would take her.........so we decided to take her up there ourselves.....it is now 4:30 am and we just got home about 20 minutes ago.........they gave her an antibiotic through IV and told us to keep alternating tylenol and motrin.......they could not pinpoint an infection but her blood tests did show her white blood cell count was high so there is some kind of infection...........she is doing okay right now she is watching Alvin and The Chipmunks!!! And begging for more pancakes!! Smiler

So scary! My kids have not had febrile seizures - although I always panic when their fevers creep up to those scary numbers since my cousin's child has had them and I know they're very frightening.

I understand that some kids are more prone to them in others and that even a lowish fever can spark one in a child who's prone.

I hope she's on the mend and running you ragged soon Smiler

I have been there so many times. Molly suffers from febrile seizures along with clusters and focal seizures. They always put me in panic mode! The nice thing about febrile seizures is that your child will grow out of them. They usually grow out of them by the age of 5. If a seizure lasts longer than 3 minutes, then definitely call 911. Keep you child on motrin and tylenol. Alternate the two drugs. We found that if I even thought Molly was getting sick, I started her on a low dose of motrin just in case. How does your child do after the seizure has passed? Is she back to normal? If she is, then that is a good sign. I will add Savannah to my prayers. Good luck and God bless you all.

Thanks ladies....

She seems to be starting to feel better now.......... she went to see her doctor this morning and Dr. Sandoval did another blood test and found out that her white blood cell count went from 22,000 last night down to 13,500 now..... so the antibiotic they gave her last night seems to be working. Although they could not find the source of the infection...... Dr. Sandoval thinks that the infection is coming from around her mouth, where she got a rash and some irritation from sucking on a pacifier.....I thought it was healing but she said it looked a lil red to her so she thinks that is what caused her infection.....which in turned caused the fever.....so she is being put on a prescription cream for around her mouth, and Cephalexin, an antibiotic.

Thank you ladies so much for your prayers and well wishes!!!! Smiler

Please know that I will be praying for you and Savannah. I hope she's fine by now. I KNOW ABOUT BEING ON CONSTANT ALERT...My boys, now 7, have had a history (literally hundreds between the two boys) of febrile seizures. They have generalized seizures as well, but as soon as I suspect they have a fever, I alternate between the motrin and tylenol. I keep giving it to them until they've been fever free for 24 hours. I barely get ANY sleep for fear that they'll have another one. You'd think by now I'd be useto it. What I did discover when they were about 3 and I wish I had discovered sooner are feverall suppositories. They take the place of tylenol (acetemitaphine) or however you spell that. They seem to work a whole lot faster than regular tylenol. We also keep ice packs wrapped in towels and just keep in on their backs and on a cold compress on their foreheads. Anything to keep them cool.
