I posted a link that has varied information about several types of jaundice than can present after birth of a baby.
If expecting, I think it's good to familarize yourself with the possiblity of a jaundice occurance. I read several articles, some suggest over 50% of children exhibit jaundice in the first week of their life. When Ethan was born they told me he had jaundice, I had no idea what they were talking about- I sure was an uneducated young mom! Have some of you experienced jaundice in your children? Severe, minor, what was the treatment plan? Neonatal Jaundice Link ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

brooke had jaundice. she was yellow the day we were supposed to leave the hospital. it wasn't sever but i still cryed. i really wanted to go home, and now i was going to have to decide to stay another night or leave my baby in the hospital by herself. well i decided to stay another night. when they took her blood that evening things were looking more on the normal side so we were released at about 11 pm. i was so happy to be going home. i did have to take her to the doctor the next day and he sent her for more blood work to make sure things were evening out. part of me wished we would not have left the hospital because then the blood work would have been paid for thru our hospital stay. but taking her back the next day we had to pay a copay.
they put her under a hugh light with these little glasses taped to her eyes. i felt so bad for her. all i wanted to do was hold her and i couldn't. she was only out long enough to eat then had to go back under. my mom told me to make sure she is put by a window for a couple weeks to get the sunlight. not the direct sun though! Courtney, mom to Brooke and 1 on the way. were in the final countdown. |
