My 8 month old son just got his first ear infection and he was on antibiotics. However, even after he completed the medicine for the 10 days, he continues to rub his ears. Has anyone noticed this in their child?

my daughter just got over a double ear infection. and no i didn't notice that she kept rubbing her ears after the medicine. did your dr have you make a follow up appt? if he did i would let the dr know he is still rubbing his ears maybe he still has a little bit of infection left. or maybe his ears just have a little fluid in them still. my personal opinion is if he's not pulling on his ears and screaming then i wouldn't be too worried. but if you are worried call your dr. and ask his opinion.

greatfulcp has a good thought, did you go for a followup to make sure the course of meds worked?

Also a thought - Is he teething? I know many children rub their ears when teething and the behavior is much like an ear infection, fussy, fever, pulling/rubbing ears, etc..

Could be coincidence or that the infection is persistent???

No the doctor did not tell me to make a followup appointment. I am disappointed in that. He is teething, maybe your right. I am taking your advise and going to take him to the doctor this afternoon. Thank you

Van is he same age, he hadhis 1st ear infectionat 3 months but it didnot need any drugs not real bad, He just got his 1st set of teeth at 7 months and he ulled on his ears and had a fever runny nose and all that good stuff I just gve him tylenol and he was better with in a week. I am always over protective when it comes to the ears I have tubes in my ears to this day, 3 sets I have been through. but I believe in trying to fight the infection without antibodies all the time because it always breack down your system and then you always rely on them, talk to yor doctor ask for alternatives to antibodies that is what I am going to do at his next doctor visit.

My daughter doesn't show any signs of ear infections at all. Alayna does not run a fever, fuss or pull on them. When she was 8 months her ear drum ruptured and we only knew something was wrong because of the nasty stuff that was coming out of her ears. She still to this day when she gets ear infections she don't show any signs and acts just fine. Dr. Cornett says some kids have a high pain tolerance.

Also, when she gets them we sometimes go through 2 oral antibiotics then we have to go for the shots 2 days in a row-

Wow Melissa, your Alayna sounds like one tough cookie! I love the name, if Ryan would have been a girl we were going to name a girl Alayna Eleanore.

LukesMom, I know that with Ethan, when he was little, we would have to go through 2 courses of antibiotics with his ear infections sometimes. Keep us updated on your son.

Savannah Was fussy and ran a fever off and on over the weekend. I got sick yesterday and stayed home from work. My husband also stayed home to take care of the both of us but really was not feeling his best either. I called Lakeside pediatrics and they gave us an appointment a few hour out. My husband took her in and sure enough, Savannah had double ear infections. Last month she had the same thing. She did pull at her ears somewhat. When school is out, I will be home with her over the summer. I am ready now! I just hate it when she is not feeling well. Oh, we use nurse Thomas at Lakeside and like her a lot.

I took Luke to the doctor yesterday and the doctor said that the infection is gone. He relates the rubbing of the ears to his teething now. At least the infection is gone. I guess his teething is making his ears itch.

LukesMom, at least you know, it is good that you were noticing signs and being proactive on them, definitely not a waste of a trip to be able to put your mind at ease. Good luck on that teething Big Grin
