my husband and i think it's time to start potty training our 2 1/2 year old. i would love to hear what works and what does not. somedays she asks to go and other days she has no interest in going.
i started out every time she went i would give her some m&m's. at first she loved that but it must have got old because she's not interested. so now starting today i have made up a sticker reward. i put the days of the week on a paper and everytime she goes i'll let her pick a sticker to put on the paper. i'm looking forward to tips and tricks on this. thanks Courtney, mom to Brooke and 1 on the way, that kicks all the time!!! |

Potty Training - if they only came with a manual. My daughter, Vegas, will be 3 in June and we have been working with the potty for about 6 months. First it was the introduction and explaining what the potty is for. She was fascinated at first and wanted to sit on it all the time, then the fascination wore off. She attends pre-school and they are also "using the potty" there. We tried rewards and even bought a "fancy" potty chair. What finally is starting to work for us is modeling. I take her with me when I hvae to go and we talk about "listening" to hear the pee. Now, she likes to use the potty and aks me "Can you hear my pee Mommy?". Sounds rediculous, but it worked. Now we just have to get her to use the potty for the other!! hehehe

Potty training - hands down, has been the biggest parenting challenge for us so far - so frustrating.
Our daughter was 6 weeks off her 3rd birthday before she was trained in the day time - still in diapers at night. It was about 3 more months before we stopped using diapers at night. We used rewards, stickers, charts, making a big deal, not making a big deal. It got to the point where I knew she knew - but wasn't playing ball. I took her to Target and showed her the bikes, she fell in love with a Dora bike, and we used that as her carrot - the stick being - keep your pants dry for a week and you'll get a bike. Blatant bribery? Maybe. A reward that was worth it in her eyes? Definitely. Salvation for my sanity? Absolutely. She got that bike after a week's worth of no accidents, and we never looked back. My son, I plan to keep him in diapers til college - better for all of us that way |
