I just read this article, "Beware Of Pillows, Soft Bedding In Baby Cribs". I know this information circulates often through moms, but I was interested to see the age range used in this article. A report trailed the deaths of children under age 5. Under 5? That means children 4, 3, and 2 were considered in this report. This poses the question, at what age is it safe to give your child a pillow? What age did you moms give your kiddo a pillow? I included the article.

my sister just asked me this same question today. my daughter was walking when i started giving her a pillow in her crib so she was 9 months old. we decided she was ready when there was a pillow on the floor and she keep laying her head on it, and carrying it around with her. i started with a very flat pillow and after a couple months a bought her a new regular bed pillow and she hasn't been without it since.

This is a tough one, and I would like to get a lot of mom's opinions on this. This article scared me into thinking about pulling my daughter's pillow even though she is 20 months. I was torn even when I gave it to her, wondering if it was to soon. I think it was when she was about 14 or 15 months old?

Thank you Courtney for your experience and input.

I gave Lillie a pillow when she had croup to help elevate her so she could sleep, she was 18 months. She has had it ever since and I worry too. She doesnt even sleep on it now but she will look everywhere for it if its not in her crib. I got her a really flat one and hopefully thats safer but I don't know.

Van Has been sleeping with a pillow since he was 2 month old I needed to elevate him due to him spitting up all the time and it was the only thing that helped him not spit up at night, and I don't think i could take it away without him notincing. it is a flat pillow so I am not to worried and he can move around really good now. also he likes to sleep with his blanket inhis face,,, he pulls it to his nose a falls asleep wit it there. he sometimes slides off the pillow at night and I find him with his face on the edge of the pillow like his blanket right next to his nose.

My son is 8 months old and I let him take naps on a pillow. He also sleeps with me sometimes at night and he loves to put his face on the side of the pillow. I was scared at first, but he is able to move his head away from it. As long as your child can move his or her head and can sit up and crawl around, I believe they can have a pillow in the crib.

I gave Vegas her first pillow when she was beginning to walk. She slept better elevated, due to alergies, and I figured if she was walking she could avoid getting stuck under the pillow. I never used bumper pads and other items in her crib, but until this article I never thought of a pillow as a risk for a child who could sit up, walk and crawl out of their crib.

I gave both of my kids pillows around 10 months. I figured by that age they could move away from the pillow, and not be suffocated by it. I believe that they slept better with the pillow.

I love getting all this advise on this topic, this was one that was truly interesting to me. Thank you ladies for the feedback Smiler

Lilly I know sleeps way better with a pillow and at 21 months I think she should keep it.
