I took Alayna my 3 year old to the eye doctor and come to find out she can't see. She seems like she can see better than they say she can, but the prescription says different.
She has to get glasses or her eyes will get worse and could cause permanent damage.
I had glasses as a child and wear contacts now- but how do you get a 3 year old to understand that they have to keep them on- you can't sleep in them. Alayna usually falls asleep watching tv for her naps and at night.
I think this is going to be a major chore. We tried to get her to practice wearing sunglasses yesterday, but that lasted about 45 minutes then she was tired of it.

First of all, Good luck! After talking with your doctor, is there anyway she can hold out until school age? I think the older the better.

My 2 stepsons both wear glasses (their biological mom did too).

Neither hubby nor I wear glasses, so it is strange to lead them into the glasses territory. My son Brandon had glasses already when I got him. My son Austin didn't receive glasses until about 2 or 3 weeks into Kindergarten. He told me he couldnt see in the class room. I took him for an eye test and they said he had terrible eyesite. Brandon and Austin both have a very high prescription. Not wearing glasses is not an option for them. They both have muscle weakness in their eyes that we were told would worsen if they did not wear glasses. This could be what you are speaking of?

It is VERY expensive to have a child in glasses. We have gone through so many pairs!!!!!!

Glasses has been major maintence for us. Nose pads get crooked, screws in the arms fall out. They wrestle with each other at home, they get broke. They play soccer, they get broke, At PE, they get broke... you get the idea.

Anyone that knows of good deals for glasses let us know.

Oh I wish we could wait until she gets older. She has a stigmatizum in both eyes and is causing her to see everything blurry. I asked why she wouldn't have said something or why we didn't notice sooner that she couldn't see and he said cause if she's only known that site then she wouldn't know anything was wrong.
She is a -3.00 and -2.50. And is Far sited. I am near sited and my eyes are way worse. I know about the breaking glasses... I hated wearing them- I had to get them when I was in second grade and my eyes continue to get worse. They did say the glasses will help her to gain strength and sharpen them so she should grow out of them. Just know its going to be a hassle with him having them.
She is on Medicaid right now since work is hard to find so they are going to pay for the first pair. When we get our tax rebate check we will be taking her to get an extra pair just in case.
I think the hardest part of all is going to be getting her to keep them on and get use to them.
I am grateful that she has the insurance at all- cause he said for her age and that strong of a prescription if we'd waited much longer it would have just gotten worse. And Medicaid usually doesn't pay for specialist in Polk County- So we were lucky that Hubbell Eye Clinic accepted her hmo!
