My daughter is 19 months old. I think she is doing very well developmentally but I can’t help but worry about her mix up of red and green. As the mother of 4 boys, I have always been on the lookout for signs of color blindness as it is associated with boys. I never even knew girls could have color blindness until I took a couple of hours last night and viewed what felt like a million articles about the subject. I discovered females can have color blindness, but are much more unlikely than boys. I also learned that some races are more prone to be affected than others and that statistically in a typical classroom of children, at least one child probably will have color blindness. In the end of my research I feel like my daughter is much too young for me to decide if she has a color vision problem and I realized color blindness is a more common issue than I thought. I would not worry so much Your daughter is so young Children will get colors mixed up till they are older My friends son mixed up his colors till he was into his late 3rd year now in school and doing fine. 6 years old now and has dad has color blindness

my brother is color blind shades of reds and greens it wasn't diagnosed till he was in third grade. but it hasn't stopped him from doing anything. i think your daughter is way too young to tell yet. i also think it runs in familys because my grandfather is totally color blind.

Thank you ladies on your thoughts and experiences. I think you are both right. And funny thing is, Lilly the past few days has mastered her colors for the most part.

I still thought this information was so interesting. My pediatrician told me to watch for signs in my boys, but no one ever told me to watch for it in a girl. I know it is rare, but this is just one more thing that shows, you need to learn as much as you can, because all too easily things can be forgotten or uninvestigated.
