Hi Suzabelle, I also moved away and came back to Polk. I did lose touch with old friends while away. What is also hard, the close friends I do have, their children are not always the same age as my own. I can understand your lonely perspective. Although I love conversing with me wee ones, I need adult conversation and stimulus too. I had a friend call me this morning, poor girl, I probably talked to her for an hour and a half! Getting together with other moms is important. On the event calendar there is a babytime weekly at the Winter Haven and Haines City Libraries. Also we could start a group for PolkMoms?

Hi. I was a SAHM until about 7 months ago. I'm not sure if there's groups in your area. I know of some Lakeland groups. 1) Lakeland Moms on The Move - they are mostly a walking group, but they do get together for other activities. Their website is: http://z6.invisionfree.com/Moms_on_the_Move/index.php?act=idx2) Polk Play Group - they get together for play dates at various locations and days of the week. http://z15.invisionfree.com/Polk_PlayGroup/3) Family Fundamentals (Lakeland) has Mommy and Me groups on different days of the week. There's a day for babies under 1 year and for 1-2 years old. 4) Lakeland Public Library also has Mother Goose Time once a week. I hope that helps. At least, it might give you other ideas on where to look for similar groups in your area.

Michelle, Suzabelle and other moms, I REALLY want to do a PolkMoms get together. I was trying to wait until we still get a little more populated, (we have only been active for 2 weeks, yeah!). I would like to start thinking of a central location for this meeting. Do you all think Winter Haven would be central for Polk County? We have to consider moms from Fort Meade to Poinciana. Maybe a great park somewhere? Suggestions? Good for you Michele for taking matters into your own hands. Feel free to gather yourselves at any moment.

I'd like to get together and meet new friends, too. I also live in North Lakeland, but Winter Haven is fine to meet. I usually drive to Auburndale almost once a week anyway. The Auburndale Library has children's programs on Wednesday mornings (9:30am for 2's, 11am for 3-5 yr olds). I know most of the libraries have them, but I like the Auburndale Library. I also take my Savannah to a playgroup at our church now. It's at Highland Park Nazarene (family ministries building) on Thursday mornings at 10am. We would love to have another "outing" to go to, plus, I think it would be good for to make some more friends. She is getting a little shy!

There is a great group in Lake Wales. MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday mornings and the 3rd Thursday evening at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Wales. They organize playdates and lots of fun MOPS - MeetUps over the summer, too. http://www.lakewalesfpc.org/mops.html
