I had orig. tried to send this in as a letter to the editor, but when i found this forum i just had to share the info will all the other moms out there, its long but this place is worth it:: With gas prices rising dramatically each passing week we have all had to prioritize our necessities, sort them out from wants and needs and buckle down to withstand the heavy blow of our countries economic time of crisis. We find ourselves making fewer trips to the beach on days off, enduring a loud co-worker or two and carpooling to work each day, generic as opposed to name brand – each of these fat trimming short cuts are not too much to endure for the immediate future, so we find ourselves making do. However, my heart broke a little when I found out my favorite local business, Kid Krazy, was in a financial bind as well. Right away, I know what you’re thinking – it’s a store, its America, small businesses rise and fall daily. But this place is more then your run of the mill local consignment shop, this place is a Mecca of quality child geared hand-me-downs. Now when I say “hand-me-downs “ I don’t mean like the ratty stained old t-shirts our moms passed off from one kid to another, I mean top notch –clean- almost new clothing, car seats, accessories and toys. It’s like having a Carters outlet in my own backyard, and it doesn’t stop there. Quality brands such as Osh kosh, Fisher price and Graco fill up this small warehouse off South Florida Ave. I was terrified when I found out I was pregnant last fall; a baby is far from cheap. Almost immediately my mind became occupied with the idea of paying for a crib…how was I going to afford a kid if I couldn’t even shell out the two to three HUNDRED dollars for a crib (and yes they really are that price these days for all you old school moms and dads). I was sick over the crib. I was at my wits end when I saw the sign for Kid Krazy from the main road. I thought “may as well look around” after a frustrating day of yard sale scouring and department store hunting. When I walked in that door I was over whelmed…they had EVERYTHING. I’m talking bassinets, Graco travel systems, strollers, maternity clothes…an entire half of the store was infant to middle school age kids clothing. Then I saw something that made my hear leap – a crib, several cribs, with mattresses included, ranging from $75-$150. And these were no antiques either. No, these were the very same sleigh and convertible cribs I had been crying over the price of in stores across town. They were used, yes, but they were perfect. Not one stain on the mattress, not one bolt missing from the frame. The condition of these items made me a customer for life. Kid Krazy did not stop there at saving my life, financially, either. When my baby came early and I had not one Preemie outfit to my name, my family dropped $20.00 on a bag full of onesies and gowns to fit my tiny little girl. When nothing would fit right over C-section scar and it was time to go back to work, I spent $15.00 and walked away with 4 pairs of elastic waistband work pants. When I couldn’t afford the $50.00 Fisher price bouncy in the store for my in-constant-need-of-motion child, my mom picked up one for me at Kid Krazy for $25.00.Some of you are probably thinking “I’d rather pay full price and have the item out of the box with the manufacturers seal of approval”, but the promise of the store owner, from one mother to another, that she will never sell you a defective, harmful, dangerous or faulty item for your child is worth its weight in gold. I implore all of you that have taken the time to read this , that the next time you go to buy your child an outfit, your friend a baby shower gift, or your daughter a crib do not run straight out to the nearest Wal-Mart or Target. Instead, take a detour over to Kid Krazy. Let their quaint cozy little warehouse help you provide the same quality items to your children but at a price we can all afford. Support local business and let it become a part of your family’s history, just like I have let it become a part of mine.
I have to agree with this. I love this store. I have three children and one on the way. With uniforms being our main attire, I hate to spend big $ on new clothes that are only worn on the weekends. The owner buys the clothes from the customer so they seem to be in better condition than your normal consignment shop. I have even found school uniforms here. Stop here for great deals!
I am a huge fan of Kid Krazy and have bought and sold many items there. They also have unique new items, some of which are made by local companies! I bought a tutu that fell apart the moment I took it out of the plastic...a thousand little roses all over...talk about a choking hazzrd! I noticed they no longer carry this one. I never bothered to return it...I was going to try to salvage what was left. Another item I bought broke and the owner managed to get the company to send me a replacement part. I noticed they were closing for renovations. I am excited to see what they have in store for us!
hey the full address is 4620 S. florida ave, Suite #103, lakeland fl 33813....they are in the same plaza of where the old goodwill used to sit and beside carsmetics...its almost right across from clausens, on the same side of the rd where lake mirrium publix sits...
