We are thinking about doing a Disney Cruise with the kids in a few years and wanted to see if anyone had any opinions or if anyone had been on one. I know it is rather expensive but I think all of the ammenities might be worth it. I do not really care about the child watch services, just the family activities, kid stuff, etc.
Just some thoughts would be appreciated about cruises and if Disney cruises are worth the money. Thanks! ~Shiloh~ Mommy to Elizabeth & Cooper |

We went two years ago and had a wonderful time. My children were 2.5 and 6 years old at the time. It was great and we have only happy memories. We hope to go again.

We've heard about these cruises. We've actually considered going on one ourselves, not necessarily a Disney cruise, but some type of cruise. Shawn mentioned a cruise as one family summer vacation option, too. We don't know how cruises go, but wouldn't need the babysitting activities, but the family stuff, what about going off ship? How does that work? Also, do you have to set activities off ship on your own, or are there activity options through the cruise itself? We'd love to go someplace where we can hike, trek through ruins, horse ride at the ocean, sight see, but all as a family.

Pete-N-Repeat,
Go on-line and order the DVDs. We ordered the one for Disney and one for Carnival to compare the two. I haven't watched Carnival's yet but Disney's did give a lot of helpful info. I think the thing that sells it for me is Disney's private island with snorkeling, kids activities, sting rays etc. That would be fun! ~Shiloh~ Mommy to Elizabeth & Cooper |

Anyone else been on a Disney Cruise?
I would love to hear feedback on a comparison of other cruise lines compared with Disney. Has anyone done both? We as a family went on a Carnival cruise and it was a blast! We all loved it and the kids had a great time. When I think of all the fun we had, I think; why switch it up when it was wonderful? I think that has been why I haven't thought to do the Disney cruise. Anyone that has been on a Disney cruise, does it get adult? I have wondered if it’s Mickey and kid decorated so much; will I get burnt out on it? You would literally be trapped on a boat with cartoon decor at every turn. I would enjoy it for awhile I am sure, but after day 2- who knows? We never utilized any daycare/sitting services, but they do have them if you are interested. Ethan and Austin at the time were 9 years old and they did Camp Carnival. It was organized play time with other guests of kids in their same age range. My boys loved this! They met other kids from all over the world. The instructors were wonderful too. They have longer and shorter sessions of this. We always chose the shorter session, usually daily, so we could do things as a family. Shore excursions for Carnival, (not sure about other cruise lines), it is much easier to book before you leave on your trip so that space doesn't fill up. Yes we hiked ruins in Mexico; I wouldn’t trade it for nothing. I also LOVED swimming with the stingrays in the Cayman Islands. I would love to go again! My in-laws have been on MANY cruises as adults, and they have taken about half the grandkids on Disney cruises at different times. They are cruise-aholics! They like to do both, but emphasize that a Disney cruise DEFINITELY caters to kids, who are allowed pretty much everywhere. They wouldn't do more than a long weekend on Disney...but they aren't young and prefer the laid back, do what you want/when you want pace of more adult oriented cruises. We are talking about a Disney cruise with our godchildren and their parents in a year or two.

I didn't realize there were DVDs that could be ordered. I'll have to do that. Are they free and does each cruise line have them? Could you post the web addresses for the ones you received when you have some free time? That would be so helpful! Thank you in advance! With our time share, we can change out for cruises, so it is something we're considering in the near future (near future to us means 5 years out lol

I am sorry but I am computer stupid sometimes (unless it is myspace). I haven't figured everything out on here yet.
I googled both Carnival and Disney Cruises and went directly to their web-site and ordered their free DVDs. I still haven't watched the one from Carnival but the one from Disney is loaded with helpful info and FAQs. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Can anyone tell me how to post a link?? ~Shiloh~ Mommy to Elizabeth & Cooper |

We have been on the Carnival Cruise and the Disney Cruise. Both were 4 day and 3 nights. we had a blast on both cruises. Our kids had more fun in the kids camp on the Carnival Cruise. I personally liked the food better on the Disney Cruise and liked the idea that you change dining rooms every night for a different theme. The Disney Cruise is definitely geared towards children, however we had a great time and the Carnival is considered the party cruise, but as a family we had a great time and my parents went also and loved it. My husband and I did the snorkling excursion in the Bahamas. The kids did not swim at the time, so they stayed on board in the Disney Camp, which had plenty for them to do. The camps are very safety oriented (you get bracelets, pagers etc.). There are activities on the cruises, however if you want to do things off the cruise ship you have to plan your excursions ahead of time and they will let you know where to meet. It is very organized. Or you can just get off the ship and do your own thing. We went to the straw market in Nassau and over to Paradise Island hotel and casino.
One tip for the Disney Cruise, ask about a Florida resident rate. It saves lots of money. I priced the cruise that we took online and it came up to $2700 and I called them directly and asked about a Fl. Resident rate and all four of us went for $1300.00.(2007) The year before we went on Carnival for $1500.00. Our kids were 4 and 6 the first time they went on a cruise. |

I haven't been on either- Disney or Carnaval- but we did go on a Royal Caribbeans cruise. Anthony and I went the year I was pregnant with Alayna-
We'd love to go back just ourselves for a weekend without the kids- then go on one with them. On the Royal Caribbean there seemed to be a lot of people with children. They had some kids activities- We went to Nassau- which was nasty to me. And we went to their private island Coco cay- (think I spelled it wrong sorry) Loved the private Island- there were several excursions for everyone to do. We didn't get to do much as I was preggers and we limited to the things the doctors said I was allowed to do- but its was really enjoyable. Melissa- Mommy to four!!
