samsmom, I am in complete agreement in pro-education. There are 6 pages of this topic with various links on the negative side effects of vaccines. I was trying to explain to 18watt_fan that the information is there he so kindly provided for mothers like you to mull over.

This gentleman also had an inclination to post about vaccines in off topic threads as well. I can appreciate his passion on the subject. My comments directed to him is based on keeping the disadvantage debate of vaccines in this thread. The information here is extensive and perhaps could be overwhelming to some. If anyone would like more information or thoughts from 18watt_fan, please feel free to use PolkMoms to private message him.

I myself have wondered about vaccines and how they can affect my children. I did make the decision to vaccinate because our family travels out of country regularly and felt it would be safest for our situation. I am very open to the idea of reworking the schedule of vaccines and vaccine education.

I also like the public to empower themselves with information. Only when there is a loud and multi-voice, change can be made.

Please know that your 2cents are welcome here. Welcome to the site.

.

Did anyone notice this thread - at THIS point - has approx 5586 views?

This seems to have been (and still is) a very productive and informative thread.

It's amazing how many pro-vax people are on this thread. If you are already pro why are you needing to respond? This is his thread he should be able to talk about vax all he wants to. This is not an off topic thread. This information may be very helpful for new parents who haven't done their research just yet.

anywho
Thank you 18watt_fan I appreciate your links posted and think you mean very well. I choose not to vaccinate my children and I choose to build a stronger healthier immune system for my children in other ways. My kids also eat very healthy and organic foods whenever possible. I don't think any of the posters who had something negative to say actually looked at the research from medical professionals that was posted.
best regards!

EmbracingBirth:

I just thought I'd pop in real quick and inform you of the following SHOCKING news article from yesterday:

.

YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP !!!!!!!

(from Yahoo News)

'Flying syringe' mosquitos, other ideas get Bill Gates funding

quote:

WASHINGTON (AFP) – The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation awarded 100,000 dollars each on Wednesday to scientists in 22 countries including funding for a Japanese proposal to turn mosquitos into "flying syringes" delivering vaccines.

The charitable foundation created by the founder of software giant Microsoft said in a statement that the grants were designed to "explore bold and largely unproven ways to improve global health."

The grants were awarded for research into preventing or curing infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis and limiting the emergence of drug resistance.

They are the first round of funding for the Gates Foundation's "Grand Challenges Explorations," a five-year 100-million-dollar initiative to "promote innovative ideas in global health."

The funding was directed to projects that "fall outside current scientific paradigms and could lead to significant advances if successful," the Gates Foundation statement said.

"We were hoping this program would level the playing field so anyone with a transformational idea could more quickly assess its potential for the benefit of global health," said Tachi Yamada, president of global health at the Gates Foundation.

Among the proposals receiving funding was one from Hiroyuki Matsuoka at Jichi Medical University in Japan.

"(Matsuoka) thinks it may be possible to turn mosquitoes that normally transmit disease into 'flying syringes,' so that when they bite humans they deliver vaccines," the Gates Foundation said .

The following video-forum I'm about to post is for persons who are on BOTH sides of this issue, so don't take this like I'm stirring up trouble. (not that I ever tried to do that)

A few days ago, Deirdre Imus (Don Imus' wife) and her organization conducted a "fair and balanced" forum about vaccines which included two speakers who were fully FOR vaccinations and two speakers who wanted to proceed with caution with vaccines.

(I didn't think it was "fair and balanced" because none of the panelists were fully against vaccination.... I personally don't think you can "green" a vaccine - but I digress)

But anyhow, here is the archived video footage of this very interesting event.

The reason I find this forum very interesting is because of the question-and-answer period which followed the four presentations.

The audience was filled with moms just like all of you here.....and they get very vocal with the doctors during the last part of the session.

One of the hot-topics, especially with the moms in the audience, is the mandated flu vaccine in New Jersey...(the forum is held in New Jersey).

Watch the fun unfold:

(after you click on the following link, scroll down and click onto the red-lettering that says: "REPLAY WEBCAST"

Link to get to webcast

You will probably have to enter your email address, but the footage is WELL worth the sacrifice of typing it in........ESPECIALLY the question-and-answer session at the end.

The question-and-answer session can be accessed by getting the slider and moving it to the 2:34 portion of the video.

Here are the specifics:

Unprecedented and Historical Forum on Vaccines:

    (Link to these specifics)

All Sides of the Issue (I disagree)

We would like to extend a personal invitation for physicians, health officials, legislators and parents to join in a historic discussion on October 23rd, at Hackensack University Medical Center. “A Forum on Vaccines: All Sides of the Issue” will address issues relating to the safety of the recommended vaccine schedule for infants and children, which continue to emerge as a national debate resulting in numerous news articles. This is particularly true here in New Jersey.

The forum and panel discussion will provide differing perspectives on vaccinations, vaccine policy, parental concerns and finding common ground. The guest speakers will be:

Deirdre Imus, founder and president, The Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology®

Heather Howard, New Jersey Commissioner of the Department of Health and Senior Services

Jeffrey Boscamp, M.D., FAAP, chair, American Academy of Pediatrics/NJ Chapter Infectious Diseases Committee, chairman and physician-in-chief, The Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center

Margaret C. Fisher, M.D., FAAP, chair, Section of Infectious Diseases, American Academy of Pediatrics, and medical director, The Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center

Lawrence Rosen, M.D., chief of Pediatric Integrative Medicine, The Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center

David Kirby, journalist and author Evidence of Harm: Mercury In Vaccines and The Autism Epidemic: A Medical Controversy

Each speaker will provide a professional perspective and will then participate in a panel discussion and question and answer session.

This forum will bring together physicians, health officials, legislators and parents and present great opportunities to share information vitally important to all of us. The forum also hopes to stimulate discussion and further consideration about the trajectory of public health policies.
