Thanks for all the info.
I will have to visit some of these sites. My son's biological mother was bi-polar. My son is only 5 years-old and all the professionals he is seeing still won't completely rule out bipolar disorder. |

Bipolar is very hard to diagnose in children as it has alot of the same symtoms of ADD and ADHD and some other mental illnesses. My nephew has been going through tests since he was 5 and now is almost ten. They have tried bipolar medication and it only made him suicidal. He now is on ADHD medication but I have not seen much improvement with this so far. He has seem to have gotten better with age but definately not the easiest to deal with. We just try to poor love on him so that at least he knows we are there for him. He stills sees a psychologist and a psychiatrist as well.
Bipolar normally is triggered by some traumatic event but not always. Did anything like this occur for your child? The reason I ask is my birth mother was bipolar and so is my oldest sister but my sisters did not occur until she hit puberty. I am also having trouble mentally now and wonder if I may be as well but mine did not start until the pregnancy of my first child and has just gotten worse and worse. I am on antidepressants and anxiety meds but still have bouts of Irritiblity that come out of know where and downs. The hardest part is controlling the anxiety and Irratibility because the just come out of know where so I nor my family is ever prepared for it. The meds and my husband have helped me realize when this starts to happen but it still is not easy to control. I am sorry for you having to deal with this with your child I can only imagine what it must be like for children with bipolar as the world is hard enough to deal with without having to have something that you cannot control very well. My thoughts are with you and your family. |
