American, other moms what do you think? Do you think a day care could turn you away even with the exempt form?

Schools are government agencies that have to consider your rights.

Most Daycares are businesses. I wonder if a business could just think of it as "we don’t have to take you, there's another kid right behind yours that wants this slot that has their vaccines".

Every day care has their own rules/regulations and the right to turn down a child to attend their facility.

Has anyone been discriminated against at a daycare for not having their children's vaccines?

I have to admit I am not very knowledgable on vaccines. I believe in advance science including advance medical science and would definately rather my child have a vaccine than not, except the flu vaccine which I am not sure does any good for most as the strand changes every year.

Anyway I did not remember that they got vaccinated when they were young. What age do they get this? I had chicken pox and definately would like to try and help my kids froming getting it.

So they revaccinate for the chicken pox when they enter school? My son will be in school next school year 2009/2010.

Nancy, thanks for joining PolkMoms and being such an active member! Smiler

The chicken Pox vaccine is given usually at around the age of 1 years old.

There has been a lot of children that received this vaccine as a one year old that still become infected with Chicken pox as an older child.

There has been talk in the medical community that chicken pox should be reboosted at around the age of 7 to 10 years old to keep the immunity from expiring. All of my children were vaccinated for chicken pox. My sons Austin and Brandon did get chicken pox about 10 years after their vaccine. It was obvious that is was chicken pox, but we had our peditrician diagnose and confirm it as well.

If it is important to you for your children to not get chicken pox, then you should talk to your children's peditrician about a possible booster to the vaccine when they get a little older.

Thanks so much. It is important to me, I will definately talk with them. This is off the subject but what pediatrician do your children see and do you like them - Are they personable yet still informed and professional - Do they lean on the side of caution rather than lets wait and see? Thanks

Nancy, I live in Bartow and see Dr. Ricardo Arguello as my children's pediatrician. It is very convenient to have someone here in town with me. I love Jan and Tracy that work there with him. They always try to get you in.

I do have problems not being able to be seen on weekends and after hours.

For the most part I do agree with his philosophies and he is very open to listening to your ideas. For those that speak spanish, he is bilingual.

Thanks, Bartow is not that far for me. I live off of West Pipkin towards County line in Lakeland and could take 60 no problem.

I just want a Dr. that will listen and consider my thoughts. It just seems now a days the Dr's go back in forth - they want you to be informed but not too informed to make them feel like they have to fight you on anything. I have gotten this so much, not just from my pediatricians but my Dr.'s as well.

Thanks for the info.

Hmmm, it would seem the right to go to public school would not be something you'd care to fight for given certain expressed opinions and beliefs about public schools, (below).

But I will say this, no, I don't think it's safe for unvaccinated kids to be in public schools. I don't really think it's safe for unvaccinated kids (or u~v adults for that matter) to be in crowded areas where other unvaccinated people are in number, or close proximity. I don't really think or worry somebody's kids of an unvaccinated status could compromise the health or safety of the majority of kids who have been vaccinated. It's not about us, really, the true danger is what the unvaccinated kid/person is exposed to. And of course, there's a relatively small percentage of people with a compromised immunity issue, (those with cancer, etceteras) but not enough to say, hey, ban the unvaccinated kids from public school. No, I still believe in every American's right and freedom to make the choices for themself. However, that doesn't mean I don't think it's extremely unwise for parents who choose not to vaccinate their kids, for them to over~expose their kids to some very possibly dangerous situations; foreign travel for instance could also possibly be foolhardy. Some exposures might just not be worth it. But, if you, your kids, or anyone else wants to attend a public school, I would not want to compromise your right to do so. I wouldn't try to stop it, I just happen to think it would be fool~hardy for the reasons I've given, and I can see where there would be concerns.

Now, as far as the chicken pox vaccine, I would not venture to guess that every vaccine is necessary, I would say though from knowing of someone who has suffered from the adult version of chicken pox, it's far easier for kids to either catch it early, or not to ever have to catch it. But, again, freedom of choice is a biggie for me, I do believe that trumps forced anything.

Usually those parents who accept what is being taught in government schools do so out of denial or fear their own responsibility in allowing their children to attend. They can't face what they are or have done to their children. They can't face that they aren't up to the challenge of either fighting the system or educating their own children. They are selfish and seek only what is in their own best interest, not that of their children. If they truly were open minded, desired the best for their children, believed in our Nation's Freedoms, they would take a stand against that which detroys. The destruction is of families as much as it is our children and their God given talents.

Shawn ~

I just wanted to add that very possibly Dr. Ricardo Arguello saved my one daughter's life at one point when she was still a baby. He's an angel of a pediatrician. If it hadn't of been for change of insurance due to hubba's job changes many years ago, he's probably still be our pediatrician. Smiler
