I know guitarjee posted a thread about Natural Remedies and someone else may have some time ago, too, but I wanted to pass on this information about a local Honey Farm. It was created originally as a homeschool project and is in the growing stages of their home business.
The following is the information I have obtained and been authorized to post for everyone here: COUNTRY BEES HONEY FARM Delicious, local, raw, non-pasteurized honey for sale. (please forward this to others who may be interested) Our five hives of busy bees have been working hard and have produced over 150-lbs of Palmetto/Holly honey!! Reserve yours now There is still plenty in stock…but it's going fast Prices 8oz Honey Bear $3.00 12oz Honey Bear $4.00 16oz Jar $5.00 24oz Honey Bear $7.00 3lb Honey Jug $12.00 6lb Honey Jug (1/2 Gal) $20.00 12lb Honey Jug (1Gal) $32.00 This raw honey comes straight from the hive and is screen filtered to ensure top quality flavor and thickness. Store brands are pasteurized and many contain fillers which results in a thinner product with less taste. Current and Future Varieties Include Orange Blossom, Holly, Palmetto, Christmasberry, Golden Raintree, Sour Wood (not local), Tupelo (premium prices apply - not local). Not all are available at this time. To Order... Send us an e-mail countrybees@earthlink.net Dan & Sarah Stayskal THANKS FOR CONSIDERING US!!!!!! They do not currently have a web site, but are in the process of getting one started and have said they are also looking to opening a self service kiosk at their property in the near future! Hi, Shawn, I did read someplace that you enjoy honey. You are welcome!
Dan Stayskal shared some sites with me on Honey that I thought I'd pass on for everyone: http://www.femhealth.com/BenefitsofHoney.html http://www.honey-health.com/ http://www.bees-online.com/HealthBenefitsOfHoney.htm http://www.ebeehoney.com/raw-honey.html He ended the email with this information: "F.Y.I. - I was able to extract about 180-lbs of Palmetto honey and 60-lbs of Wildflower honey this weekend. I also will have approximately 600-lbs of Orange Blossom honey in stock in the near future. Spread the word I am adding information on the Botulism (I believe Shawn mentioned it once) since we know a family who nearly lost their son from it. Just FYI: http://pediatrics.about.com/od/weeklyquestion/a/04_infant_honey.htm Michelle "Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless in facing them. Thanks for sharing some good sources for honey PnR.
And I want to thank you and Shawn for mentioning the fact honey is NOT safe for children under a year old. I had completely forgotten that fact, given my youngest will turn 12 this year, it has been a verrry long time since I had to worry about that. Just call moi Rachel or Gjee. There's an apiary off of 33 near Shepherd Rd in S Lakeland (Mulberry). I asked about a natural remedy..I forget what it is called right now, but it is basically bees ground up...sounds gross, but I was just curious. They didn't know what I was talking about! They have a cute little shop too and even gave me a tour!
