I have been searching and waiting for an article that highlights Teflon use. This article touches base on Teflon and other chemical byproducts in our home from other sources.

I have cooked on Teflon many, many times. Sure it's nonstick attributes makes life a little easier, but after reading about dangers of using it a few years back, I stopped using it.

In this article it talks about using Teflon only to a certain temp, no higher than medium high. Another article I read said not to use it hotter than medium heat.

How can we know really what temp we are cooking at when everyone's stove is different? Also mentions the “do not know factor” of using Teflon period. Can it be harmful at any temp? It is chemicals that we are cooking on……

Have any of you been scared out of not using Teflon? If so, what are you using now instead?

Is this topic important to you?

Please read this article to see if it might change your view on the safety of Teflon and plastic bottle use. There are 2 pages, I know who has time, but try to scan it if you can. I think it important to arm ourselves with this knowledge.

I hate using Teflon, because not to mention it scratches so easy and then that is getting in the food....I hate it.

I do not know any alternatives though, I'll try looking and if you find any let me know.

Thanks

Nancy Cast Iron is one of my alternatives. I posted about my like of using cast iron. I will include that link at the bottom. I do not use teflon at all in my house. And once you "season" a cast iron pan, it is almost as nonstick as teflon.

I also use a stainless steel set of pots and pans with copper bottoms for other cooking.

Awesome. I thought about cast iron but I will have to look better as I have looked once and could not find it. Stainless steel is a wonderful idea. My birthday and anniversary are coming up soon, I'll give some hints to my hubby.

I have heard, so I am not sure if is true, that you can buy cast iron pieces at Walmart. My best friend found a set for me at Tuesday Morning. I have seen it there several times myself very reasonable.
