Okay Ladies, I love crape myrtles, they always bloom for my birthday! If any of you feel froggy and want to beautify the yard this is a great time and way to do it. These plants are sold for a good deal and cause.
These flowering trees will be sold this Saturday 7a.m. until noon. The search for the perfect color flower could be fun for the whole family. They come in many variances of color. The white and lavender flowered trees tend to be more flowing and longer droopy steamed if you are looking for that weeping willow look. For more information about the tree sale check out this article http://onlineadvertising.polkvoice.com/default.asp?item=2215359&mode If you want more general information about these beautiful trees you can check here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crape_myrtle Have any of you ever been to The Ledger's annual Crape Myrtle sale? ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Shawn,
I have never heard of this sale before but I am thinking it's a great idea! I am going to *try* to get over there after work Saturday morning! That would be a lot of fun to do with the girls, let them help me plant it and then watch it grow! Thanks for sharing this with us! I don't have a name anymore, I've simply become "Alyssa's mom" or "Alexis' mom" |

Jen, My kids LOVE to plant things with mom! I hope you and the girls have fun with it. I told Eddy I want to go and get some and he gave me "if looks could kill" face. He told me if I bought and planted another plant in our yard, he was going to plant me
I do love crape myrtles and we do already have a ton of them in our yard. They bloom profusely through the summer, they don’t take a lot of care and they have pretty silvery stems in the winter. The leaves do fall off in the winter so if any of you get one and it looks "dead" in the winter time- don’t freak out. In the spring they come back just a sprouting and by summer they are back to blooming hard core again. I think the stalks when the trees are older are very sculptural and artsy and look great bare. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

I've tried twice to go to the sale. The line will be long (reminiscent of the rummage sales of old at the Civic Center) and some people will buy all 50 they are allowed, so if you are back in the line a ways you may not get the color or amount you want. GET THERE EARLY IF YOU CAN.
My daughter (who was only two last year) was not able to stand in line that long so we left both years without any trees. |

Vegas, did you go this year and were you able to finally get some????
Shawn, I mentioned it to my mom when I got home this morning and she started laughing at me. She pointed out the back window and she said, "See those?" I said, "Yeah" She said, "Those are crape myrtles." We've got four of them in our backyard! (inserting "I am an airhead" smiley-face thingy here... hey Ledger, can we get one of those... I could us it A LOT!). Anyway, they are beautiful and I love it when the flowers fall off and into our pool, makes it seem so tropical! Did anyone go today? How was it? I wonder if anyone made it as well. I really wanted to go, but as I said, I have no where to put any more.
Jen I'm glad that you have some of my favorite trees. What colors do you have? ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Shawn, we love these too. Did you see we have one, but the bouncy thing may have been in the way?? We had it where we lived before we bought this home and brought it with us - we rented my parent-in-law's home while searching for our own, so no big deal bringing it with us, besides we bought it. We moved it twice here and finally settled on where it is and it's finally starting to bloom the way it should. I've wanted to go to the sale for a couple of years, but never get to and this year with the party, couldn't either.
Shawn, your yard is amazing! Very well done and kept up. Eddy told us about having hay one time and that you both almost fell out of your seats when you opened the water bill. We have scaled back so much since we moved here from lack of time to spend. Maybe we'll catch the sale next year. Thanks Michelle for your yard compliments
I don't think it's where I want it to be, but I am super anal when it comes to gardening and can spot what it's lacking a mile away. Florida gardening can be relentless without much shade, and we don't have very much. I wish we had more! Yes I did spot your lovely tree, girl, you are talking to a lady that can name 90% of what I see in the plant world, I really am a freak. Your tree was beautiful. Your color choice was super! I really liked your heliconia and gerber daisies by your front door. I have a larger varity of heliconia by my front door too. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Oh, goodness, I knew it!! Can you name weeds, too?? LOL I am sure you recognized plenty of those in my yard too! What can I say, we just don't have the time.
I used to have the entire chain link fence covered with Passion Vines and when our older son was young he'd help me weave it through to fill in where needed. They all just died from the last "freeze" we had early in the year. I left all the dead hoping to see some new growth, no such luck. We literally just pulled it all off about a month ago. We gave it that much time. Did you see the boys' "gardens?" Again, I am not so good with pulling the weeds in and around those. It seems when it rains two days in a row (we had about 3" last week - we measure by the pool tiles I really wanted something out that front window because of the piano and sitting on the chaise longue for reading with the boys. I like oranges and yellows in our flowers, bright happy colors, which is why I was thrilled the boys decided on those same colors for their bathroom - then again, they were thinking tennis ball and basketball colors. lol Your yard is immaculate! I envy it, I really do. We were wondering if you water with reclaimed water and how often you do water? I love grass you just want to kick off your shoes and run in. We don't have that, maybe one day. We just refuse to use chemicals, so while everyone around us does, all the bugs come to us. Oh, well, you are so sweet to find a couple nice things to say about the yard. lol We know it's not what we'd like, but it's fine for now. You are an awesome plant world "freak!"
