I liked this article and I am curious how many of you had these issues, it can't only be hubby and I if they are writing articles about it Big Grin

Hubby and I didn't buy a house but built one together. I have heard over and over, “if a marriage can survive a build or a buy then they are set for life!”

Have any of you experienced spousal turmoil while buying our building?

my husband i did both. we built a house in ny together. and our familys actually did all the work. and then we sold it and bought a house in fl. we didn't argue over either one. but we really liked building better because if we wanted to change something we did.
we did find a really nice house here the bad thing it was during the housing boom so we had to act fast before it got bought out from us. both were good experiences for us.

Courtney,

My husband and I have built two homes and each time there was always turmoil and the newest one was built at the same time my second child was born and at the same time my mother was diagnosed with cancer and died. But both times especially this last we got through with no hard feelings or regrets. In the end it actually has brought us together, but believe me during I wanted to strangle him, as I am sure he did me. lol

Nancy, I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mother especially at such a stressful time.

I am relieved to hear another couple testimony that there was friction when building because my husband and I almost killed each other.

Hubby and I have such different ideas and tastes. I have a lot of European tastes and likes as far as architecture and hubby likes old plantation style houses (which I love too). Our house ended up with no style at all, just pulling from various styles, Hubby likes it, and it is okay to me. I am very grateful for a strong house and a dry roof though! Smiler

We fought over colors the most. When we finally decided we wanted a yellow kitchen, we then had to look at 4,000 yellows. It was decision after decision from cabinet knobs to what type of roof to have.

We were planning a pool at our house and I stopped that construction when I found out I was pregnant about a month and a half before we moved in. Hubby was upset by this. I just didn’t want to run the risk especially with older children likely to leave doors and gates open.

I definately agree about the pool. That is why we did not put one in, the kids are just too little. But on the bright side our community has a pool so I take them almost daily, it is a nice outing for us all.

The decision to build was hard enough but the decision making on colors, fans, lighting, etc. was to say the least Hell, excuse my language.
