After six years in this house I guess it's high time we put some curtains up lol!
We have found fabric that we love, and that goes with our overall decor - but - I don't want to tackle making them myself. I'm having a hard time locating any curtain making services or individuals in Lakeland and was wondering if anyone here has had anyone locally make their draperies successfully? |

my mom made curtains for my kitchen. but i'm sorry to say she doesn't live in florida. and she doesn't think she does a good enough job. even though i think she did a great job with mine. have you look in the phone book?
Courtney, mom to Brooke and 1 on the way, that kicks all the time!!! |

Albee, are you back?
I made most of my own; I love to do that kind of stuff but don't know how elaborate you would want them. Sewing runs in the family on my mom’s side and my grandmother does very professional results in all sewing. She does wedding dress alterations, makes bridesmaids dresses, anything. The most elaborate curtains she can do with her eyes closed. She is very reasonable to the point I feel like people rob her. If you are interested, let me know and I can get you her contact information. ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Yes we're back
I just want fairly simple draperies - from the rod to the floor - hung on rings - and a valance for my kitchen window. I could probably do this myself - but the thought of doing them, and linings - with two kiddos running around - well, they might get finished by this time next year - I was thinking it would be just easier to pay someone else. |

I might know someone if you don't use Shawn or her grandmother. I would def. try them first as my friend is trying to get prepared for a major craft fair, but if you need her let me know.

No, I can't, I wish I could.
I am impressed to hear Shawn made her own! I probably would too, but, not sure if I'd end up hanging them! lol Sewing- not my thing. I have a machine, like to, and have made things with the boys, but something as significant as home decor?? Let us know what you decide or whom you find. It'll be good to have for future reference. Lisa, is this the one next weekend that you mentioned you'd be attending? Are you having anything you've created or just as support with your friend? What types of crafts is she going to have there? Have fun! And let us know how it goes and what you think of the event. Michelle "Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless in facing them. Yes this is the one. She makes photo albums using kids board books! She also makes lots of other things-she is very crafty. I am going to be displaying some scrapbook products that I sell, to hopefully drum up some business. I am really looking forward to it. |

Yea! This sounds like fun. Your friend may be interested in something we bought at our homeschool convention this year, then. Pass this on to her, if you will: Binding Books Beautifully http://www.bindingbooksbeautifully.com/ The Ultimate Lap Book Handbook http://www.tobinslab.com/shopping/catalog.aspx?scCatalo...&scCatalogItemID=974 She may find something useful from these, too. The boys just created their first book (about Armadillos) using an example from the Ultimate Lap Book Handbook. They consider themselves authors now. Very cute. What are the times she is going to be there? What time is the event itself? Michelle "Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless in facing them. We are going to be at the cafre in Orchid Springs in Winter Haven. The event is from 8-12 I believe I am waiting for the confirmation it is still happening. |

So, not going this route lol!
The only fabric that I felt I liked enough to have drapes made for our great room was WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY to expensive when I got them to calculate the yardage and price it for me! |

Albee that is so true! The price of fabric can be insane!
I love to go to Hancock fabric and to Joanne’s (in winter haven and Lakeland) periodically to see if they have sales or good deals on their clearance bolt table. I also signed up for coupons in emails and regular mail. I have been sent (and have used) 50% off coupons. That is nice. So if you’re not in a hurry, you may be able to wait until you get a really good deal to buy some fabric. Also if there is a fabric you really like, get the maker and name of the print and go on eBay! I have bought most of my fabrics this way! I made the CUTEST crib set myself with a sage green toile that had the cow that jumped over the moon motif for Ryan. Loved it! It was big bucks local. I bought it on eBay for a quarter of the cost. Just my experience. Wait until you price drapes/ curtains. I just bought some for our bedroom, never really found fabric I wanted to make some. I got a really good deal on them, over half off at Linen’s and Things. I ‘ve lived here almost 5 years, it took me 4 years to find what I wanted and the good deal- for me it has to be the good deal too. They were regularly $100 a panel, meaning $200 per window (panel on each side) gasp! I have 3 windows in my room. I just couldn’t have paid full price, every time I would look at them I would have felt sick to my tummy! Now I can look at them and grin and do the happy dance—lol, ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |
