According to E.D. Hill of FOX news, no way. Ms. Hill, with 8 children of her own, wrote a book called I'm Not Your Friend, I'm Your Parent .

The lead into the book is:

"A "Fox News" host and busy mother of eight offers the antidote to permissive parenting by giving parents permission to be in charge. With entertaining stories from her own family and those of others she has encountered in her profession as a journalist, she tackles parental challenges."

Do you agree with this journalist and author?

Do you think you are a permisive parent if you are friends with your children?

Do you think it's good or bad to be a buddy with your offspring?

My children aren't old enough to know the definition of friend. But speaking from my experience with my own mother, I think you need to be part friend, part parent. My mom and I have been best friends since I was a teenager. Our bond grew stronger when I was 16 and lost my dad to cancer. Our friendship has helped in more ways than it has hurt. I can talk to my mom about anything and everything, nothing is off limits in our conversations. My mom has always encouraged her children to talk openly to her, when we were growing up she had a rule: If we did something wrong and told her, we didn't get punished instead we had a "did you learn your lesson?" talk, however, if she found out before we told her, we were punished and got a "you better not let it happen again" lecture. I'm thankful that my mom was my "best mom friend". I plan to do the same thing with my own children.

Thank you guitarjee! I'm surprised more people haven't commented on this particular subject, especially the parents of teenagers.
