Do you think the Disney thought crew failed in letting these undies get by or are the parents being silly?
Your thoughts? Article below: Parents Angry Over Disney's 'Dive In' Underwear for Young Girls ~Mother to Brandon, Austin, Ethan, Ryan and Lillian~ |

Disney could have thought about it more I guess but personally, I think they are being silly. I think ANYTHING could be considered suggestive. It just depends on how the person looks at it. Also what could be suggestive to one may not be so to others.
What I thought was the most odd though was the comment that the grandma made about never knowing who will see them in their underwear & find it enticing. I think they need to be more concerned about who or why someone might see the 7 year old in her underwear to begin with. Another random thought I had, was it surprised me that it is making such a stink overseas. I have spent time in Europe & I remember being surprised on how unmodest (is that a word?) everyone was compared to here in America. I went to a public pool & saw young kids swimming naked & no one batted an eye. |

I read the brief article and these are my thoughts--
1) I have to ask since I've never seen the movie (is there more than one??), is there any movie tie or connection to the phrase "Dive in" or is it just some random phrase? 2) Next, I'd like to know the other phrases on them. Personally, I do think that on little girls' underwear, the phrase "Dive in" does seem a bit extreme. But, then again, as Rella brings up who and why would someone be looking at the child's underwear that the parents would be questioning motive or interest? 3) I do not think parents are ever "silly" in our cause for keeping our children children or away from things that are suggestive - it can be a slippery slope issue. Like Rella said quote "I think ANYTHING could be considered suggestive. It just depends on how the person looks at it. Also what could be suggestive to one may not be so to others." I agree. 4) And finally, if this grandma wants her money back she has the right to request it. If mom, dad, and grandma want the underwear pulled, they have the right to request. That said, just because it's being requested doesn't mean it'll be obliged. Just my thoughts Michelle "Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers but to be fearless in facing them. Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain but for the heart to conquer it." Tagore CARDBOARD TESTIMONIES Self Reflection ![]() "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam" |

Yes, I think it's inappropriate...and I am very liberal! I get annoyed by commercialism, and clothing and toys fashioned after movies, etc...Even the G movies have a lot of hitting, deceit, farting and parents dying! But my husband is the first one to take my son to see these movies, even PG13, and he buys the toys, so I give in. A little girl at my son's school had a shirt that said "i'm cuter than you" or something like that. I thought that was so mean. What are we teaching our kids!? I know it might offend a lot of people to say this, but my son received some cammouflauge shorts as a gift, and I don't like it when he wears them and I try to avoid it! For any peace loving hippie types like me...there's a street vedor "revo baby" with a website (i don't know if i'm allowed to list it here) but you can google it. They have some cool shirts for kids with people like Ghandi and Bob Marley on them.

Pete-n-Repeat, I was curious about the "Dive in" phrase too so I googled High School Musical & I found online where you can buy moveie posters & shirts that both say "Dive in." I am thinking maybe it is the title of a song from the movie??
Jmarr, I understand where you are coming from to a point. Camo doesn't bother me in the least though, thank goodness. If it did I would be in trouble living in Polk county. |

If "Dive in" is something from the movie, I can understand it on a t-shirt or beach towel, etc. but I wouldn't buy the underwear for my child. I think that is a bit much. I probably wouldn't go as far as asking the retailer to take them off the shelf, I just wouldn't buy them.
Also, I have no problem with camo. I think it is adorable on little boys. ~Shiloh~ |

And yes, I have seen the girls shirts that jmarr was referring to "I'm cuter than you". I think those are horrible and parents shouldn't buy those. What are we teaching our kids with something like that????

most clothes and saying really don't bother me. the thing that botheres me is seeing a young girl in a mini skirt that if she bends over theres her underwear. or a half shirt(i don't know what they call them). i don't think kids should dress sexy i guess i want to say.
i have a shirt i used to wear that my mom hated. theres a band named jackyl that i went to see whenever they came to town. the shirt said rock me roll me jackyl me off. i wore it to school once and my mom had the biggest fit. i didn't see anything wrong with it . i still own it. Courtney, mom to Brooke and 1 on the way, that kicks all the time!!! |

If I had children I definitely wouldn't buy something like that. I mean sure it's all the rage and all the little girls and boys want to have the shirts and pants that are from the newest and hippest movies, but it gets to a point. I've personally always disliked the shirts that say things like "I'm cuter than you" or the ones for preteens and teenagers that say things like "I'm out of your league" or something like that. It tells kids that they aren't good enough for the person that they want to be around with.
I agree with you gratfulcp, I don't like seeing little girls wearing miniskirts. I know that in the neighborhood that I live in there are about twenty or more pedophiles and child molesters that are registered, who knows how many may be unregistered. So naturally, being female, I'm always thinking about what guy may be watching what I do, and what I wear. Back to the story, (lol sorry I ramble quite a bit) I see what can be wrong with the phrase "dive in" being on little girls panties, but also it's apparently a song or something in the movie thus Disney finds it acceptable. I wouldn't buy them so there goes a sale down the drain for Disney. |
