Moms, How much does the tooth fairy leave under the pillow at your house? Has the tooth fairy ever forgot to come?

At my house it is $5 a tooth. The tooth fairy has never forgot, but one time there was a scrabble.... My daughter told me her tooth was loose. I checked & it just barely wiggled. I told her to leave it alone (call me crazy but loose teeth & pulling teeth freak me out). Well I learned this after the fact, but she sat & wiggled it all day making it looser. When she did lose it, of course it was late at night & I had no money on me. Hubby had to run up to the store to take out money & buy something to make change.

We are on the same page on the pulling /loosing teeth thing. When my kids show me a loose bloody tooth, it gives me the shivers. I am not squeamish at all, it just reminds me of me loosing mine as a kid and it made me nuts. I was so glad when it was over

At our house it is a Golden Dollar coin. I have been collecting the for some time so I have a stockpile.

Around here a tooth is worth $1. YES the tooth fairy has forgotten to come! Normal procedure is the tooth goes in an envelope and has “To: Tooth Fairy From: child’s name”, written by them, on the outside. They get back one from the tooth fairy (usually some ones hand writing that the kids don’t recognize like the neighbor or there Auntie not mommies, daddies or grandmas. This last time thought I completely forgot and my husband thought I had done it! My 6 year old son woke up, checked under his pillow and started bawling! Luckily my husband slipped out of sight, removed the tooth and put in the dollar bill came back in his room and handed it to him. He told him that “There’s no tooth in it, feel it!” So he felt it and then opened it and said “What happened”. We told him that the tooth fairy was probably very busy last night. How many of your friend have lost there teeth this week? He said a lot! LOL it was all too funny and almost heartbreaking! I felt so bad and now when a tooth is lost a hot pink blank post-it note goes on the bedroom door until I do the exchange!

Amanda, great advice on marking the door with a sticky note! I didn’t want to admit it until another mom did , but it was forgotten at our house once before. We pulled a switch a roo too. Austin is a restless sleeper so during the night the tooth fell on the floor. When he woke up, Austin said his tooth was gone and there was no money. I felt awful!!! I went to his room, saw the tooth that he didn’t see, thank goodness, on the floor, grabbed the tooth, threw money down, and said, "Austin, come here, your money must have fallen on the floor while you were asleep." He was happy and the moment was saved. It still didn’t help my guilt.

The tooth fairy that visits our house leaves $5 per tooth... and yes, she *almost* forgot once... my daughter woke up extremely upset that the tooth fairy hadn't visited! I distracted her and placed the money inside her pillowcase rather than under. We went back in her room a few minutes later to "double check" and that's when she found the money.... WHEW! Crisis diverted!
A few loose teeth later my neice (also 9) was telling my daughter about "tooth fairy water" Have you heard about this?! They leave a glass of water for the tooth fairy- tooth fairy takes a sip before leaving the money and the water turns whatever color the tooth fairy is that day (thanks to the magic of food coloring!) Certainly something the tooth fairy didn't do for us as kids... my how times are a changin!

My 7 yr old daughter just started losing her teeth last Summer. The "Tooth Fairy" leaves her a $2 bill for each tooth. My daughter doesn't like to save her money very long, but we've explained to her that $2 bills are kind of special. So, when she wants to spend it, we trade her $1 bills for her $2 bills. That way we always have $2 bills to give her for her teeth. We did have a close call once. Recently, with her 4th tooth to come out, the "Tooth Fairy" didn't visit til morning. My husband is taking classes to finish his degree (along with working full-time), so that night we had stayed up late working on a paper. (I type faster than he does, so he writes down or tells me what to type). We both forgot about the tooth. He remembered when he got up for work the next morning, so he slipped in her room and made the exchange! She never knew. I like the sticky note on the door idea, I may have to try that. I always had a good memory, but I think my toddler has drained it! I've become very forgetful! Anyway, we always put the tooth in a little Ziploc bag under her pillow. I always leave it hanging out just a little, so that it can be easily and quietly snatched! Daddy has been named as the tooth puller in our house. Her teeth haven't fallen out on their own, they usually hang on by a teeny bit and Daddy is the one to pull it out. She still gets a little freaked out. She will wiggle it all day long, but she will not pull it out!

My youngest pulled all her own teeth and it didn't seem to bother her a bit. She'd tell me it was loose and a few days later come hand it to me and say something like "cha-ching!". The tooth fairy did fall asleep once, and like ChanelPrincess, we had to look a second time to "find" it. The going price seems to be $5. A huge raise from the dime or quarter I received as a youngster.

Kay, your cha-ching gave me a good laugh, thanks. My son Austin is like your daughter. He will decide he has a loose tooth- hardly a budge -one morning and by the end of the day, he has it out. Ethan will baby a loose tooth until it is ridiculous.

$5 per tooth!?!?!?!?!?!? WOW! At our house (I have a 14 y-o & a soon-to-be 6-yo - who still hasn't lost any teeth), but it was never about the amount of money, but the special coins. I have used the gold dollars and the $2 bills. And YES, the tooth fairy has forgotten (I'm a single mom...I'll have to remember the sticky-note trick when my son starts to lose his - Thanks!), and I, too, used the "oops, look - it fell off - I bet she couldn't find it"...and then we went and got a "tooth fairy pillow" from the book store - a small pillow w/ a pocket in it to hang on the bed-post. MUCH EASIER!!

kalamichmom, I love the pillow idea! I think I may even make my own to keep as a keepsake to pass down. Thank you for adding that information! I will get on that in my spare time-lol. I do love to sew and It shouldn't take long to whip it up.

American, I usually get my gold dollar coins from the post office stamp vending machine as change back from a large bill.

Also if you are at Publix or Wal- Mart etc, you can ask if they have 50 cent pieces or the gold dollars to give you as change. I know it has happened that I was given change with coin dollars but most of the time the cashiers don't think to give them. Same goes for $2 bills, sometimes anywhere you go they somewhere usually have them. Last time for me was McDonalds.
