Hi everyone,

I am in search of a summer camp for my 6 year old. I need the week by week camp, not one where you have to pay for the entire summer.
I know the YMCA offers weekly camps but was looking opinions of anyone who has enrolled their kids in camps around Lakeland.

Thanks
Sarah

Camp Gilead in Polk City is an excellent week by week camp. I went there for several years myself and my children have attended in past summers. It is a non-denominatial Christian Camp and I give it 10 thumbs-up. They have a website, I believe it is www.campgilead.com, if thats not it, it will come up if it is googled.

Hello,
I am also looking into a summer camp for my daughter. I will check out the web site for the Gilead camp!
I've never sent my daughter to the YMCA but I have recently talked to a few moms who have. They told me the YMCA may not be the best place. Granted they have a terrific pool but, I don't think I would be comfortable with an 18 year old watching my daughter with 19 other kids without any help from another adult. That makes for a chaotic and crazy day instead of structured and safe. Like I said, I've never sent my daughter there, I am only passing the word. Good luck! Wink

Someone mentioned ExplorationsV, too and their membership. They have an open house in August I believe and memberships are usually offered lower than $50.00, if I recall correctly, for $35.00! So, it's worth waiting until then. Here is some camp info though, well thought I had one??? Guess not. at least not for summer camps.

The YMCA strives to provide both safe and quality programs for the Adults and Children it serves. Please let the other moms know that the YMCA cannot fix something if they are not aware. Child care staff are trained in CPR & First Aid, along with Training in Child Abuse and Much more. If you or anyone ever has a concern with a Child Care issue, please call the Lakeland Family YMCA at (863) 644-3528 and ask to speak to the Director of Child Care services,(Cherie) or the Assistant Director,(Marie). Hello,

I'm glad to hear some positive things about the YMCA summer camp. I really don't know much about it. Honestly, the main thing that scares me about the YMCA is the fact that some crazy guy was able to get thru the loop holes by becoming an employee and then murdered a teen. I like to think this is an isolated case. Unfortunately, to some folks, it may still leave a bad reputation for the YMCA.

Thanks for sharing! Red Face)
